We uncovered an insidious conspiracy around the end of Butch's tenure. The truth will be disconcerting, almost unbelievable, and will cause you to question the very foundations you assume our society is built upon. You ready? Why does it seem when coaches come to Tennessee they lose the ability to actually coach.
I don’t care how hot a commodity a coach is, I don’t want them unless they have had HEAD coaching experience in the S.E.C.
Who said anything about shunning Saban, Meyer and Miles? If they are a good coach in the SEC, they most likely won’t be changing jobs. So, you are effectively saying you will only take a mediocre or failed retread, which is all that will be available. Muschump fits your criteria.
Meanwhile, you are shunning coaches like Saban, Meyer and Miles.
I agree that HC experience is a must, but a good coach is a good coach.
Coaching in the SEC is a little different than coaching in some conferences. Week in and out there is more competition and more scrutiny than at a lot of schools. Some “coaches” like Butch weren’t prepared for that. Why does it seem when coaches come to Tennessee they lose the ability to actually coach.
Miles? Miles? Have you seen his success at Kansas? No thank you.If they are a good coach in the SEC, they most likely won’t be changing jobs. So, you are effectively saying you will only take a mediocre or failed retread, which is all that will be available. Muschump fits your criteria.

Listen, it does not take a genius to see Miles is past his prime.Wow...just wow. We have some real geniuses in our fan base.
He won a natty at LSU (114-34, seven 10+ Win seasons out of eleven full seasons). If we had a coach do that in Knoxville, he would get a statue.
Kansas is a completely different animal than a top-tier SEC gig. If you don’t understand that, I can’t help you.

Fulmer won a NC and had an overall 70%+ win/loss record here at UT. Want to hire him back?
How much success did the last coach we hired with a losing record have? Remember him? He came from a lower level program as well.
You cannot move forward looking in a rear view mirror, and the game has passed by Miles, just like Fulmer.
I am lost on what you are trying to communicate. Can you not read? I never said that UT should hire him. I used him as an example as to why you can’t limit your search to SEC HCs only.
I agree he is now past his prime. But he sure as he!! wasn’t when LSU hired him away from OkState.
I am lost on what you are trying to communicate.
What you said was we were “shunning coaches like Saban, Meyer and Miles”. You then defending him by taking a stab at my intellect and then quoting his successes at LSU and defending his 3-15 record at Kansas because...well it is Kansas.
But all that work for someone you do not think should be considered? If you are speaking Miles’ name in the same sentence as Saban and Meyer, you are putting all three of them into consideration.
