Tyndalls offense won't intentionally milk the clock on possessions and stand around while making lazy passes 40 ft out to start the offense with 15 seconds on the shot clock.
Period. The rest is semantics. You will be able to tell the difference in intensity and activity on the court and sideline in the fall and won't need a bogus stat to back it up.

You were a big proponent of using the simplest stat available, Ppg, when speaking about how solid our defense was and poor our offense was last season....no?

You said no need to look at the efficiency numbers, percentages, possessions etc. that points per game told the story?

No need for snarky comments that have an argumentative tone, I asked a simple question, if you can't answer it then just ignore it. No need to clutter the board with your argumentative nonsense.

My point simply was, you were all for Ppg being enough evidence last year, if you stick with that last years team averaged more Ppg than Tyndall's team....

Stop putting words in peoples mouths. I said nothing of the sort regarding ppg and have always said people need to watch the game with their own eyes to make judgements about how a team plays, instead of stats that can be manipulated based on things not on a stat sheet, but instead on the floor. Period. That's your problem. You make up junk then people like me either take off or have to take off for not putting up with your bull****.
And no warnings about cluttering up the forum with bs from the one who clutters up every thread with multiple posters.

When people were discussing how our defense wasn't that great, and that the defensive efficiency was pretty poor, you responded that we were holding team to 62ish point per game, and that that's good defense, that defensive efficiency is BS.

If you need me to pull those posts I'm sure I can find them.

Please stay on topic. Thread is about offensive system and my post was about the offense. Nowhere at no time did I or anyone bring up defense or defensive efficiency, much less argue about it. Let's stay away from arguing about points not even being made and the bb forum may get some good posters back.

I think most of the problem is the phrase "tempo". Some people think of tempo as the activity or urgency at which a team plays while others simply think of tempo in terms of statistics like those used by Kenpom. Tyndall's teams seems to play with more "activity" than Martin's but they don't really score more PPG or have more possessions. No more doing nothing for 30 seconds and having an offensive rebound be the best play. They may take as long to get the shot but it will likely be a better shot.

To me Florida is a good comparison. Florida picked up full court last year, played great half court defense while not pressing, had an efficient offense and yet their "tempo" was pretty slow.

Solid post, agree 100%

People heard him compare our offense to Kansas, and defense to Louisville and got this false picture IMO.

Kansas' offense was one of the best in the country, averaging close to 80ppg and incredibly efficient. Southern Miss barely averaged 70ppg, and nowhere near the same number of possessions.

While defensively Louisville played much more uptempo, and still held teams to less points per game than Southern Miss.

Tyndall may play a similar style, but comparing his offense and defense to those teams had some people thinking he meant our styles were gonna produce similar results, and that's nowhere near accurate IMO. That's like Butch Jones going out and saying we're gonna have the defense of the 49ers & offense of the Broncos, people are gonna get this image of the best of both worlds, high powered offense and suffocating defense, when that's not the case.

My point was slightly different. I simply think some people say "tempo" and mean how much activity or how much of the floor is used (full court press) while others think strictly in terms of tempo-free statistics.

While Tyndall's and Martins teams appear to have the same statistical tempo, from what I can tell Tyndall's teams will have a better on court energy (and subsequently be more fun to watch).

As far as the comparisons to Kansas and Louisville go, I think Tyndall was just trying to give people an idea. Like a football coach being hired and saying "We run a hurry-up spread offense like Oregon or Auburn." When coaches give comparisons they usually try to pick a gold standard so people can easily understand.

Right I get that, and understand why they do it, I just think for those who don't understand what coach speak is they're setting themselves up. There's people saying we are gonna be run & gun, and that's not even close to accurate, unless Tyndall changes his philosophy.
