Coach Rocker

May I agree with you yet at the same time point out that our DL was getting pushed around by KY's OL almost the entire first half last night? I love Coach Rocker and I'm sure he noticed that. I'm all in on him and our boys but good grief....our DL plays at times like it has a long ways to go. Something seems a bit off when KY rushes for 302 yards on us.

Not really, UK has a decent OL, their entire offensive scheme is dedicated to the run and it took them almost the entire 1st quarter to go down the field. Besides their QB has two 200 yard rushing games on his resume this season. He didn't get that against us. We adjusted very well and shut them out the whole second half.

Vols will need to pick up guys like Middleton and jucos, etc. to build defensive line depth. Tennessee lacks the numbers of high quality DL prospects found in the deep south states. Rocker and the staff are doing well developing who they have and also redshirting others who need time. It generally takes 2 to 3 years of strength program work etc. to become an SEC contributor. Rocker is doing an outstanding job and he sure knows the area as he was a force at Auburn during his playing days. Some of the recruits viewed as projects by the scouting services will be solid contributors after some seasoning and coaching up by Tracy Rocker.

Like everything else it's just an opinion that got posted. What good is an opinion forum if no one posts their opinions? You don't have to like or agree with them. I just like to read 'em.

I get that. But "people talking" doesn't mean a coach will be fired.

That's what's difficult about Rocker. Dude seems like an absolutely stellar D-line coach, but half of the college game is recruiting, and he seems to take that half off. Can't really argue with the job he's done on DL this year, though; that was supposed to be our biggest weakness and he's gotten the most out of that unit.

Overall, I trust Pruitt to do what's best.

If coaches are assigned to areas, I wonder which area Rocker recruits. Is he missing on players whom other coaches are recruiting? Maybe he needs to get out more and take it up a level, but an excellent D-line coach is not something I want to lose.

The lack of recruiting wins have people looking to replace him. But he is producing with smoke and mirrors. Raise your hand if you thought #48 Blakely - with 2 career tackles - would make the key play on the 4th and goal. I heard no less than 10 defensive lineman had a solo or assisted tackle last night.

These guys and getting better each week, and at a certain point that matters to our recruiting targets.
Not trying to be a negative nancy, but our defense was on the field for 42 minutes. Every defensive player should’ve had at least one tackle.

Rocker is absolutely doing a fantastic job. I live in bammer, Aubie fans around here have a high opinion of his coaching prowess, but more important, you're right, we have had some unknown type guys emerge and make big plays on the DL this year. Rocker knows what he's doing.

Reminds me of the Dan Brooks years. We would have a rebuilding year on the DL, and someone like Jesse Mahelona would come out of nowhere and dominate. Hate that Brooks is now at Clemson stealing recruits out of Tennessee, but maybe Rocker and company can shut that down now.

Brooks has been retired for two seasons.

Last year we had a 3-5 personnel rotation if that. Coach Rocker couldn't trust them because they weren't ready. He's had some time with the group and is coaching them up and its showing on the field. Blakely, didn't start out as a DL. H'es worked hard, and regardless of how many tackles he's had, he's responded to the coaching well. The group loves Coach Rock.

A lot of people think the position coach recruits his position, which is normally not quite the way that is.. Coaches recruit areas.
