Coach deserves one more year to right the wrong !

They could have had heart warming chemistry and it still wouldn’t have mattered much. They aren’t that talented and are extremely poor defensively. The roster was inadequately built
Yeah, a team of McD AA and the national 6th player of the year and all conference preseason player are just a bunch of dregs. Certainly no indictment of a coaching staff that could not bring these players together!

Yeah, the competition got real.

The LVs schedule has been ridiculously back loaded for a few years now.
Yeah, looking back at the season we really had only two really good wins. One against Alabama who had been looking strong, and one against Kentucky, who was missing their center and top rebounder in Teonni Key.

We also had two solid wins: At Stanford and against a Mississippi State team that eventually also beat Kentucky. We had one other good game and that was the 2-pt loss to Texas.

Other than those four wins, only two of which were considered “really good wins,” we were pretty mediocre this season. Of course we trounced the Winthrops and Southern Indiana-level teams to get a lot of wins early, but interspersed we saw that anyone of any serious competition handled us easily.

It was just a tough year for Lady Vol basketball.

Plan A, Plan B, Plan C... Is there a successful coach in Women's Basketball that talks like this? Her "system" doesn't work against good teams. If any coach could assemble 10 players skilled enough to take Kim's system to the Final Four -- that coach wouldn't need her system.

If Kim couldn't beat a 7-seed NC State team using her "Plan A" system why does she think she could have Final Four caliber results using it full time? Her press conference was pure BS. Her system didn't work because she gave up on it and her players did too? Nope. Her system almost never worked against good teams. Period.

When you press for 40 minutes you're going to commit a lot of fouls. Sure, you'll get some turnovers, but you'll give up plenty of easy baskets. The better guards will beat it. Shooting mostly threes without a lot of ball movement to set them up will only work if your team dominates the boards. The better teams won't let you. Never letting your best players stay on the floor for over 30 minutes will only work if you have 10 or 12 really great players. But the days of stacking up that kind of talent are over.

I'm not sure who Kim thinks she was fooling with her post game statement. She would have been better off saying "My system doesn't work well against top caliber Division 1 teams. I'm going to retool our approach during the offseason and come back with an offense and defense that will." I think most knowledgeable fans would have felt a whole lot better with a statement along those lines. Falling on your sword doesn't make you a better competitor if you just repeat the actions that caused you to fall on it the first time.

Bull$#!+ her team last year was very disciplined in this “system”. HOWEVER, she had tess, jewel, Sara, and Jill which she inherited along with Coop who played decent roles. Others were on the team as well and didn’t play as much.

She brought in Zee, Ruby, and Spencer along with the Pitt transfer. It seems as though Zee regresssed MAJORLY under kim and we all know what undisciplined thing Ruby did ! Then you have her 8 recruits from this year that were all kim’s and that is where the breakdown seems to occur. So nope as Kim heavily alluded to this was on her for not bringing in people who worked hard in her “system”
None of the players ever really became a Leader. A Coach is powerless if a player doesn't step up and become the team leader. It really showed on the Court, with the undisciplined play. Coop should have become the leader but she was more about Coop than the team.

And Plan B was still using "the system" just in moderation.
Just in moderation

hmmm….

We also (somehow) won at Georgia. Also Alabama did not have Essence Cody when we beat them, but also we didn't have Barker in the Kentucky win.

It's obvious that the egg came first. There were egg laying dinosaurs long before there were chickens. 🤣
Why… i oughta…

  • Why did the chicken go to the gym?
  • To work on its pecks.

  • What do you get if a chicken lays at the top of a hill?
  • Egg rolls.

  • Why did the farmer cross the road?
  • To get the chicken back.

  • What does an evil hen lay?
  • Deviled eggs.

  • Who should you call when your chicken coop is haunted?
  • An eggsorcist.
Off to the grocery store to buy eggs and such. We are supposed to get another 5-7” of snow today. Mud season is upon us.

Again , Bull$#!+, if your team doesn’t have a leader on the floor then you have to be the person to continually give instructions and get them going. It’s on you as the coach to identify and or create that position of leadership. However when you have a style of play that allows everyone to play how is any leader supposed to handle that. I get she is in year 2, had a baby, she recruited players that didn’t fit her system but those things are ALL on her. Now she will have to adjust and come into a year 3 on the hot seat. No other way to look at it. This season was a disaster and she was the captain of that ship.

Also, I wish people would extend Coop the same grace they are extending Caldwell. Coop has been the saving grace of bright spot on Kim’s teams more than enough and we’ve seen kim just not play her in certain situations or seemingly take her out and leave her out for whatever reason Kim has decided. For all the people that want Coop gone they may get their wish and she may leave. No matter what your take is we wouldn’t even have won 16 games (lowest in LV history) without Coop.

Kim Caldwell is under contract through 2030. She’s here next season. Best to hope that she adjusts her system to best utilize the players on the team. If she’s not building the program during the next four years, White may pull the trigger if he sees a proven coach wanting the Tennessee job.
You need to go watch the post game presser from NC State. She has already doubled down on her system publicly. Said going away from it is why it came off the tails this year. That says she will not move ,change, adjust, tweak or anything next season. Did I see that wrong, is that what everyone else saw?

yup that is what i saw and heard..... if she wants her system then she needs to recruit for that.... get the blitzkrieggers the pressers the tenacious fleas who are always on the ball.

if the hockey substitutions work for her then good..... dont recruit McD All Americans and slot them into your system. Typically these blue chippers are not made to press the ball.... and be subbed out on a regular basis.

As i have said before we are being passed by programs in our own conference we had always considered non worthy of being mentioned alongside us.

Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Ole Miss, LSU, Texas, Oklahoma, South Carolina of course. Others are knocking at the door. WCBB has been growing leaps and bounds in recent years.... and we have not been keeping up. We have ceded supremacy quite willingly to the up and comers whose schools have taken note of the importance of the sport and put a big commitment into womens hoops. And for us? 12 years invested in 2 feel good hires from the Summit tree.... and now a grand experiment who sold her vision to DW. This is the foundation our athletic department has built to pave the way for the future of Lady Vol basketball

So where are we now? Some expect our bellweather recruit to come in and take WCBB by storm ....typically that doesnt happen..... unless you are a mikayla blakes or sarah strong.

For me i have lowered my expectations seeing what DW sees and the athletic dept sees and juxtaposes spending with other sports .... i need to see more commitment from school athletic dept coach and yes the players.

You are absolutely correct. To put it in terms some people might find easier to grasp,

Kim's post game remarks were analogous to suicide by cop.

I had heard rumblings (not an insider, didn’t believe it so I didn’t mention it) about a ‘locker room revolt.’ The most disturbing and disappointing things about it are 1) Coaching staff caved into it and 2) The fact that the players demanded it while having a pretty dang good season.
Let em all (coaches and players) go except the one player on the team who wants to be a Lady Vol. Hurst.

Watching other coaches in this tournament shows there were plenty of good coaches out there at non-powerhouse schools, DW just didn’t go after them.

That was my point, it wouldn’t matter if they sang songs together and held hands. It clearly didn’t fit whatever CKC was attempting to do and whether they were all Americans or not, they certainly didn’t perform that way for most of the season. I am no CKC fan but quitting as a player is a poor quality to have as a person and it is more than obvious several did

Have you ever been so demoralized that it felt like depression? I’m guessing you haven’t.

I have, and it can be energy-sapping in mild cases and, in extreme cases, debilitating.

In my observation it often seemed like when opponents started running layup lines on us as the press failed over and over and over regardless of how hard we were trying, that some players‘ mental shut-down responses were triggered.

There’s a lot more to it than just “players quitting.” Our players weren’t quitters. They were crestfallen in their disappointment that they felt powerless to stop the bleeding, and with zero help from their coach.

"I can't put it on roster construction. I gotta put it on me, right? I've always been able to recruit players ... and get them to run through a wall for me and get them to play hard," second-year Tennessee coach Kim Caldwell said. "I wasn't able to do that, and the one thing I can put my finger on is that I bailed on what we want to do first, and then how can I blame anyone else from doing it?"

If you believe her fast talking gibberish, she renews her strong conviction in basketball as hockey. That's her plan.

The player revolt rumor and the timing of it makes absolutely no sense. Supposedly they were winning and winning a lot when CKC said it happened.

If there was any player unrest the only timing that makes sense is after CKC threw them all under the bus with her comments.

I think something happened and folks on both sides are trying to save face or save their job.
