'25 CO Transfer CB Colton Hood (Tennessee)

He was considered a good get…but not the at the level he attained by the Oklahoma game. Uttering otherwise is deniability for deniability’s sake.
I mean nobody had him as a top 3 corner in the country, sure but I thought he would be instantly all SEC, which I'm one to doubt often. Maybe I was just higher than the consensus ig

Kind of weird the rave reviews this kid gets from everyone.... except the recuiting services?

247 has him as a 87 three star transfer, 68th ranked portal CB and 480th overall portal player.
On3 has him as a 87.25, the 54th best transfer portal CB and 426th overall ranked portal player.

I'm not suggesting the services are the end all be all, but with all of the fan and some media reaction, you'd think we were landing one of the premier players available. Also, why did Colorado move on from him? Math aint mathing.

I think he's going to be a good player for us and I love that we get him for hopefully 2-3 years, but I wonder if we should pump the breaks on thinking he's going to be one of the best corners in the SEC in 2025.

not positive but i believe those may be last years rankings when he transferred from auburn

At times he looked a 3 year NFL veteran stepping down to play in college.

Just better, faster, and more athletic on the field than everyone else even though he was just a 3 star form Texas.

He got the Freshman All-American title at OSU and then at most I expected him to be a solid CB for Tennessee in the SEC. HE destroys that narrative and becomes the best 1 on 1 defender in college football.

Only time he looked outmatched was against a freak who probably could have went straight to the NFL out of Chaminade- Madonna HS.
Jeremiah Smith. It took a generational talent at WR to make him look off.
Yeah McCoy shut Ryan Williams all the way down when he covered him and seeing how Williams had just lit UGA up for like 180 yards lol

And even against Smith, he had solid coverage, but Howard just made perfect throws and Smith made great catches. Those throw/catches were virtually unguardable. The OSU team was simply a machine that night.

Reminds me of Bryce Thompson
Very good comparison. Bryce Thompson paired with McCoy would have been a hellacious tandem.

Not a speed demon but plays with good leverage and his instincts are great. Thompson had superior ball skills from being an excellent WR/QB in HS, but also not a blazer but good speed.

Where are you seeing that Colorado had moved on from him? He played in every game last year, had a ton of tackles and 2 int's. Everything I read said that he was the projected starter expected to take Hunter's spot.

In this thread someone posted a link to an article a that quotes Hood as saying Deion informed him he was going in another direction.

Didn’t go into any other details.

That's interesting. Reports came out that Colorado was cutting ties with their NIL collective over money issues and that the school was making direct payments to players...however, there were also reports that the Colorado players were mad because Colorado was on such a tight budget at the Alamo bowl that all the players got was a hat and a tshirt, while BYU players were geting lavish gifts. One has to wonder if they are out of money. There sure isn't much left in the portal for CBs.

Here is what the article was based on

Sounds like the staff might tried to give the brother the git shirt and Colton opted to follow suit.

I haven’t seen or heard where we offered the brother or where we’d even have room. So 🤷

Could be. I read somewhere that he was part of a trio of players that were a package deal and that all 3 had left Colorado.

Any concerns that his signing may be an indication the staff may have some concerns about when McCoy returns, or how he will play once he returns? And I wonder if Gibson made his threat to enter the portal based upon the possibility that Hood was coming on board.

This is what I was thinking. Not sure McCoy is ready Aug. 30. Hopefully by UGA.

For as much hate as Willie gets (me included), I don’t think you can ask for much better in this day and age of college football at the CB position. Boo, Gibson, McCoy, Hood, and McMurray is really good.
Yea I'm a little concerned about safety, but that's one of the best 5 man corner groups in the country. Obviously a lot hinges on McCoy health.

Ehhh I think that’s more on Milroe. Williams was open quite a bit but our rush and Milroe inaccuracies is what shut Williams down.
