'25 CO Transfer CB Colton Hood (Tennessee)

He wasn't open much at all when McCoy was covering him. McCoy didn't cover him the entire game but when he did he wasn't open.
Go rewatch. I’ve rewatched the game about 3 times and specifically watched McCoy and Gibson when Gibson wanted more money.

I think our pass rush made our db’s look a lot better than what they actually were
Will Brooks made plays against QBs that had plenty of time to throw.

McCoys INTs vs OU an Candy was all him putting himself in position. And the other where he ran stride for stride with I think it was UTEP? Beautiful play where he intercepted it into the endzone

We were strong up front and the backend. Often time they covered so well that it gave the pass rush extra time to get home.

Yeah no doubt McCoy was really good. But he didn’t lock down Williams like was stated by a poster.

No doubt McCoy is a stud and Will Brooks made good plays, im just saying any secondary can look good if the qb is consistently getting leveled 2 seconds after the snap

In this thread someone posted a link to an article a that quotes Hood as saying Deion informed him he was going in another direction.

Didn’t go into any other details.
That never happened. But what I will say is Deion worked with this kid and is arguably the best CB ever. This kid learned to play on an island last year. Bringing him in as a sophomore is akin to McCoy coming in last year. With McCoy, Gibson, and Hood I think we are good at CB this year

it goes both ways. db coverage buys the pass rush more time to get home.

and years past it didn't matter what our pass rush looked like because by the third step our DBs were turned around, out of step, and just flat out not in the right spot. this year the QB had to hold the ball that half second longer we have consistently been short of before. giving the pass rush the sacks they want.

We finally had the ability at corner to play press man coverage. That’s what Banks wants to play, but didn’t have enough confidence in his outside guys to do it. That made a huge difference and was telling of the improvement at CB.

Nice to have speed & assertive play once again.

How do you feel about Lewis, Merrit, and Redmond so far?

Yep and folks wanted to fire Martinez smh lol. A lot of it initially was scheme and lack of talent and coverage ability. Once that was upgraded, CBs looked a ton better.

And many of them still wanted him fired after last year because of perceived poor play/recruiting of Safties, a position he doesn’t coach. 😂

In absence of all the facts it is always easiest to attack the low hanging fruit. Then the echo chamber commences.
