Clutch is Overrated!!!

Lebron stepped on that ladies bare foot and you would have thought he tore his Achilles. Amazing that he is back out there.

Bump.

Kobe sucks..

Kobe is a legitimate all-star. I never said he sucks. He has the greatest talent for scoring in the NBA, he just happens to have the worst shot selection in the league. All I'm saying is he's not in the conversation with Magic, Shaq, or Kareem.

Nice find. My favorite part:

Physically, the matchup was no contest, and even Bryant seemed to sense it, retreating once again beyond the three-point line, chewing on his dribble like a piece of gum, building tension as his teammates watched the show, waiting for the explosion.

Two power dribbles toward the baseline and Bryant was into his signature move: rising and firing that floating, fading 15-footer. Iguodala stayed between Bryant and the basket and, even without jumping, reached his red-sleeved left arm into Bryant's face as the shot was fired.

Bryant works in grand scale. He's not a man prone to subtlety or to easily admitting defeat. And so, a mighty eight times in the final three minutes, the Lakers entrusted their offense to him, flying solo, almost always against Iguodala, with other Lakers in great position to score: Matt Barnes cutting hard to the hoop, Pau Gasol calling for the ball with deep post position solo-covered by a point guard, Derek Fisher alone on the perimeter -- and not even getting a look.

The plan failed miserably. That 15-footer? It clanked off the rim, not long before a Bryant turnover. A feathery baseline jumper over Iguodala's fingertips couldn't find its target, a heroically long three over Jrue Holiday bricked, a left-side jumper hit nothing but iron, a foray into the paint resulted in a miss over three Sixers and, in the closing seconds, a turnaround, fadeaway three had no chance. In all, Bryant scored two points in that stretch as the Lakers' two-point lead became a five-point loss.

I don't look to ESPN much for this type of analysis. The talking heads don't like stats, because it devalues "conversation" and their expertise, so ESPN doesn't deal in it much. If the world generally accepted stats as the proper indicator of player value we get rid of all this nonsense about "team chemistry" and "they wanted to win it more"...their go-to talking points.

I hear ya. I mean, team chemistry and mindset in general matters... it's just impossible to calculate.

It matters to a small degree, but it's usually just a catch-all way to explain why a team sucks.

"They wanted to win it more"? It doesn't matter how badly you want to win it, you have to make your shots, and that has nothing to do with "wanting it".

Team chemistry matters. I'm not saying it outdoes overwhelming talent and playing good basketball.

My point is team chemistry is something you have with good players. If you don't have good players you don't have team chemistry. The Knicks didn't have good team chemistry before Lin. What that means is they didn't have anybody good to run the point.

Kobe had 31 on 30 FGA in a loss to the Wizards.

4th Quarter: He shot 1/10, had 2 rebounds, a turnover, and no assists.

If Lebron had a game like that people would be torching him.

Hahahahaha. So effing true. Wow, didn't realize kobe stunk up the joint that tremendously.

Lebron did the most clutch thing of his career last night. I tip my hat to him.

He's made bigger shots than that. He had a playoff buzzer beater from 3 point. I think in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Like I said, people remember the stuff that confirms what they believe, and forget about the stuff that doesn't.

It was against the Magic. Thanks for telling me what I do and don't remember.

And as to the clutch play, im talking about him calling Dwade to come get the ball from him and win them the game.

It's one of the greatest shots of all time. I'd say it's much more climactic than any shot Kobe has ever made, yet you make a joke that deferring to Wade was the most clutch thing you've seen Lebron do. This joke doesn't make sense.

Also, do you know who hit the 3 that sent the game into OT to set up Wade's game-winner?

Can you quantify this statement?

Lebron hit a wide open short corner three off a drive and kick when wade drew the double (triple?) team. Great shot, Bruce Bowen.

Like I said, when he hits the big shot, haters act like it's expected.

When does Lebron ever catch and shoot 3 pointers from the corner with a defender running at him. He never is in this position, and he hit it. No matter what you say, it's a shot with 40% odds at best, and he hit it in the clutch.

Out of curiosity, think anyone leaves Kobe wide open?

Notice Kobe making the shot (game-winner) to put them up one the previous possession. This circle goes round and round.

That's called a game-winner? I don't think it counts if your team scores again, and the other team gets multiple possessions to match it.

It was clutch, but I don't think it counts as a game-winner.
