Im not sure where the Butch can recruit myth came from. He filled 2 classes of legacy players by selling playing time early. Now the best players are leaving the state. Speaking of recruiting, how about development because he sucks at that.

I know he got some 4* and a couple of 5* players. But with the exception of a couple, they suck OR Butch cant develop them.

Not all 4*s are the same. Thats a very big range of players. Bama and OSU are getting the better ones and we get the second or third tier.

I like Clay, but he's off base here. I'm absolutely destroyed about last night, but I'm not done with Butch.

Clay Travis is an idiot. Or rather he is smart because he knew an idiotic statement like that would go viral and get attention for him.

Butch pulled this program out of the gutter.

I have my doubts that he can take us to the top but to say is on Dooley's level is beyond stupid.

Isn't it crazy he finds all the "bust"? I think Butch can't develop SEC talent.

I don't think simply being better than Dooley should be the standard to which Jones or any SEC coach should be held.

Dooley was the worst hire in a decade or more in the SEC.

If this program can't aspire for higher expectations than that, then the Vols have truly become irrelevant.

Good point.

Every team has attrition and the occasional bust but Jones is pushing 20 4 star guys that haven't contributed much if anything to the program that he signed.

Wonder how those wonderful recruiting rankings start to look when corrections are made for those busts?

I would not argue with you there. A good coach can find ways to win with 3* players. My only point is that his "good recruiting classes" are mostly smoke and mirrors.

My simplistic perceptions after 4 years...
His "process" does not develop the players very effectively.
Are not flexible with the scheme taking advantage of, or maximizing players' specific skill sets.

In other words, they are unwilling or incapable of altering their plan and scheme to maximize the talent available.

There is no coach's excuse or VN rationalization that I can logically accept for losing that game.

Doesn't mean I will quit on them, will still be packing the car and heading over for Tenn Tech.
