Clay Travis Live Derek Dooley Interview Thread

He didn't have to do an interview to say he screwed up. I saw it with my own damn eyes. I wouldn't respect him any more just because he admitted what I could already see. Actually, if it's possible, I probably respect him even less now. Just keep your damn mouth shut and spend the millions you got paid for sucking.

Yeah reality isn't where Dooley is living, but obviously he's not living alone.
You're absolutely right my friend, just because he accepted the job of being responsible, took the pay for being responsible, still accepted quite the paycheck after whole thing failed,he shouldn't have to accept the responsibility. Make sense to me.
He tried his best. He put everything in place where he thought it should be and it didn't work out and be explained that tonight. Really don't get how anyone could have watched that interview and still have such a disdain for him. All I'm saying is now I understand what his line of thinking was and how it led to his downfall. He owned up while explaining what else didn't go his way. I didn't really look at it as him blaming others. But whatever we see it different ways and I'm done. You're not changing my mind and I'm not chainring yours

This is an honest man. I can't argue with that. I'm not quite sure what the point of the interview was 3 1/2 years later.

Lol.. No you wouldn't. You'd still be pissed at him.

I don't think we're really that far apart. I just don't think he was deflecting as much as you do.

I fully admit I would still be pissed over the UT part. But no, I would respect him for owning it. Everyone deserves a second chance, and I believe that completely. But only if they actually own it, stop blaming anyone else, just say they hope everyone gives them a second chance.

He's like listening to my little boy and girl. Yeah Dad I did it, but let me tell you what she did that made it happen.

You got it. Why do it now..........unless there is an agenda. Like trying to get a HC'ing gig.

Just to be clear, when I said deserves a second chance, I meant not being hated. Not being a coach in the SEC. Unless it's Florida.

Watched much of the interview. Dooley still a bad head coach, but at least he has learned to accept responsibility and not throw everyone else under the bus.

Lol... Brace yourself.

Nah, I'm done.
I was in shock at first. 2016 and some still going along with crafted wording and legal style defense.
I was just having 2011 flashbacks.
But the majority was seeing through it then and my guess is now also.

I honestly hope FL or Bama fans were just as convinced.
Without those unfortunate circumstances holding him back, he could really help them out. ;)

I don't give a sh** if people thought the interview was good or not. I don't care if people thought he did a good job of explaining or not. I don't care if he is a witty guy or not. I don't care if HIS assistants were to blame for having 13 guys on the field or not.

Spin this crap however you like. Dooley was a piece of crap head coach that just about ruined UT Football. He was the worst coach in UT, possibly SEC history.

I am not going to pat the dumb ass on his back now and say "awwww, it's ok. You did the best you could." That piece of sh** robbed us of millions of dollars while simultaneously dismantling the football program.

F*** him and his stupid assed ceramic dog. I can't even wear my damn orange pants anymore without feeling ashamed!

:the_finger: Dooley!

I was going to post but Biker summed it up for me! Nicely played Biker!

Dooley was like a turtle put on a fence post. He didn't know how he got there and didn't know how to get off.

We can start with the assistant coaches being responsible for too many men on the field if you like?

I too heard it differently than you. With respect to the LSU game, I don't think he was exactly just blaming the assistants. He explicitly took the blame for it, for one thing. He explained that his role was watching the LSU personnel and making the call, not actually shoving guys out on the field, etc. But he seemed to blame the officials for not standing over the ball and just the general "perfect storm" of being all the way down on the goal line and having our players not being able to hear, etc., more than he blamed the assistants. And in addition to explicitly taking responsibility, he also implicitly reaffirmed that by talking about how they were prepared for that scenario in the UNC game (in contrast to the LSU game, where they weren't sufficiently prepared).

Dooley was a disaster here, but he wasn't that bad in this interview. He is crazy, though, to the extent that he really believes he left the roster in good shape.

One thing he said that caught my attention...."Two weeks before signing day most people are done...." Not Butch MF'in Jones, DOOLS!!!!!

Probably going to be my most unpopular post ever - but, hate him? Really? Your life revolves so much around the success or failure of a bunch of 18-22 year-olds that being an unsuccessful coach is a reason to hate him? I'm glad he's gone, he was definitely not good. I don't hate him. More to life.

Truth. I'm pretty sure Drew Richmond wasn't a Vol two weeks before signing day.

If it looks like crap, smells like crap and taste like crap. It's crap.

If it looks like crap, smells like crap, taste like crap and has "nice hair", it's f***ing Dooley.

Not a true fan IMO

Not a true fan IMO

Never spent time in a fighting hole (if your lucky to have that) praying to God, thinking of family. wishing to be home and the only link was a Navy or Marine Corps pilot that happened to throw a bag of mail in his plane that just so happened to have a VHS tape of a UT football game addressed to you in it IMO......

More to life has many interpretations. Some of our interpretations may not be understood by all, but I bet there are those who know exactly what I mean.
