Clay Travis Live Derek Dooley Interview Thread

This is exactly the problem with Dooley. He speaks in terms like that and people take him literally.

What he meant is that it's dumb for some random guy to say he isn't an X and O guy when they themselves have no clue how to evaluate Xs and Os.

His problem is he has zero business getting a job as HBC of any power 5 football school.

I don't give a sh** if people thought the interview was good or not. I don't care if people thought he did a good job of explaining or not. I don't care if he is a witty guy or not. I don't care if HIS assistants were to blame for having 13 guys on the field or not.

Spin this crap however you like. Dooley was a piece of crap head coach that just about ruined UT Football. He was the worst coach in UT, possibly SEC history.

I am not going to pat the dumb ass on his back now and say "awwww, it's ok. You did the best you could." That piece of sh** robbed us of millions of dollars while simultaneously dismantling the football program.

F*** him and his stupid assed ceramic dog. I can't even wear my damn orange pants anymore without feeling ashamed!

:the_finger: Dooley!

Yes I do dislike him. But just because I knew one of his fans would accuse me of twisting, I actually quoted him during the speeches on the parts that I knew would be brought up later.
Beautiful thing about technology though. It would be a real drag but if anyone wants, I highly support them pulling up the video of where he explains how someone else caused the issue. We can start with the assistant coaches being responsible for too many men on the field if you like?
Yeah I remember that part vividly and didn't find it unreasonable at all. All coaches do that hoss. Look at butch during the 2014 SC game. He blasted that assistant for only having 10 men on the field which led to a SC touchdown. Also I'm not a Dooley fan by any means. I'm just able to objectively look at things and believe that he had horrendous luck along with his poor decision making (which he admitted he made numerous poor decisions).

Butch blamed him in an interview?
But yeah, you do take responsibility and correct the people under you. You don't just watch it happen then blame them later. It's called being the one in charge.

Butch isn't in the position to blame him whereas Dooley is reflecting now and can blame them. Dooley is a straight shooter and calls it how it is (at least in his mind). Dooley did try to fix things. He admitted that he didn't fix them well though. I don't know what else you want the guy to say.

Didn't fix them? He made everything worse.

Wtf is wrong with people?

I agree. But we're now 6 years later and he doesn't work here anymore. If he can't be honest now, when can he be. Even at the time, everybody knew Chuck Smith screwed things up.

He was obviously an abject failure. No explanation changes that.

What does anyone want him to say?
For once in his life act like the person in charge is supposed to. "I was the head coach it's all on me doesn't matter how it happened."
Not 2 hours of "well this guy did this and that guy did that"

There's a thing called reality. Dooley lives in it and realizes that not everything was his fault. He isn't the head coach anymore. He doesn't have the responsibility of having to shoulder all the blame that really shouldn't have been thrown his way. He was bad and he admitted it but he also discussed what else went wrong. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that

Yeah reality isn't where Dooley is living, but obviously he's not living alone.
You're absolutely right my friend, just because he accepted the job of being responsible, took the pay for being responsible, still accepted quite the paycheck after whole thing failed,he shouldn't have to accept the responsibility. Make sense to me.

You can defend the guy against stuff that's not quite right and still think he was no good.

There was obviously nothing he was going to say to make us feel any better about his tenure. I don't get the need to project horrible qualities on the guy just for the sake of doing it.

Agree to disagree I guess. It was obvious he was in over his head and instead of owning up to it he decides to deflect blame for most of his own shortcomings. He was a tool that decided to ignore recruits, shattered relationships with high schools, and was a douche as described by members in the AD.

No seriously, just saying he was responsible and stopping on that part would have been great for me.
No mention of assistants, the ad, the fans, the media, no one. Just take responsibility. It's what he got paid for. I still wouldn't have liked what happened at UT but I would have respected him for doing that.

Lol.. No you wouldn't. You'd still be pissed at him.

I don't think we're really that far apart. I just don't think he was deflecting as much as you do.
