I posted this at the bottom of Clay's "article", but I wanted to share it with VN since I doubt he actually bothers to read those comments.
Clay, you're wrong. UT fans aren't apathetic. After one and a half seasons at UT, Coach Dooley has't had enough time IN the seat for it to get hot yet. We're being reasonable and patient. What do you expect us to do? Take to the streets and burn mattresses and Dooley in effigy? If by the end of 2013, he's still only a .500 coach then the VOL Nation will feel like he has had enough time to show significant progress - which I believe he will.
Three years at La Tech -where he had to be both the head coach and athletics director- and one and a half years at Tennessee -which was a complete dumpster fire upon his arrival- is hardly enough time to be making valid value judgements about Dooley's ability as a head coach. Four to five years in one program and then you can make an accurate assessment.
I'm sorry if Coach Dooley's bamboo analogy was a bit too cerebral for you. The team is young, but he isn't using that youth as an excuse. There's a lot that goes into building a winning program and a lot of it isn't always very obvious. It takes a lot of little things that no one takes notice of and then seemingly overnight that program -like bamboo- will suddenly seem to have come out of nowhere and the more easily recognisable signs of progress like WINS will be there.
I'm normally not this rude to people, but your article screams of "butt hurt". I think your question to Coach Dooley at the post game press conference was absurd and the coach let you know it and you were embarrassed publicly in front of your peers. Now you're writting out of embarrassment and irritation. The question was dumb and the coach let you know it. Put your big boy pants on and deal with it like a professional journalist. My prediction, in one to two seasons you'll be hoping hard that no one remembers your little hissy fit when Dooley hurt your feelings because you'll be singing his praises right along with all of the others. Let me tell you now, we true UT fans will not have forgotten.
