And if it isn't being executed properly, isn't it up to the coach to change the play calling? Or is Crompton supposed to start calling his own plays at that point?

but again, if the execution isn't working, you resort to something where execution is working. Get back to me if you ever understand that.

Think of it this way. If Dale is working the night shift for you at Eric's Pizza shack and he burns 15 straight pizzas because he's not got his head on straight. Do you just continue to let Dale work the ovens all night long?

We had better execution the last two years with Ainge as the starter. Why?? He knew HOW to EXECUTE the offense. Cut didn't teach him that, that's something you have to learn on the job. How do most people get better on the job?? EXPERIENCE. :good!:

Its Crompton's fault he couldn't execute Clawson's plays. It's Clawson's fault he kept calling upon Crompton after it was clear he couldn't handle it.

You can talk execution all you want. We just lost to the team Notre Freaking Dame beat. In fact, this team is actually much worse, talent-wise, than that UCLA team. The ND offense scored 13 points against the Bruins. The UT offense scored 17. We sucked on offense. Clawson was in charge of the offense. End of story.

I do agree with everyone on why we didn't run it more. It was a problem with Coach Cut I always had. We get away from the run to much.

It was blatantly obvious Cromp had accuracy issues. We never should have thrown it that much to begin with.

Our strongpoint was out run game. Our run game was doing just fine. Yet for some reason our brilliant staff thought we had Joe Montana under center.

It's the guys first game leading the team. I figured they'd take it slow with him as they did Tee in 98. Nope. Baptism by fire, and we got burned.

Yeah, getting thrown into the goal post at LSU turned Erik Ainge into the guy that set the record for highest completion percentage by a UT QB. It had nothing to do with the OC/QB coach change. Really strong point.

I do blame him just like I blame the WHOLE TEAM. It's group effort on a loss just like a win. Problem is, Clawson didn't "Lose" the game for us like some think his playcalling did. Our playmakers just didn't make the plays they were asked to do. That's not the coaches fault.

Wrong. It is his fault... it's idiotic to keep calling the same plays if they're not working. There's no debate.

He also put the ball in the hands of who they STAFF thought our best option at QB was. Didn't work out too well for Cromp and honestly if he is the best we have at that position we are in for a long year.

I think what people are saying is at some point, the coaching staff has to recognize which people have the best chance of moving the ball. Clearly it was the rbs. That adjustment should have been made early on.

It wasn't and they continued to throw the ball excessively. Anyone could see the passing game was struggling.

Gerald Jones, Montario Hardesty, Arian Foster (even with the fumble), and Lucas Taylor made plenty of plays. They should have had more touches. Hell, the first three guys I mentioned probably gained 85% of our total yardage.

Arky won 10 games a couple of years ago by relying on the running game. There are alternatives to passing 40 times.

Crompton actually looked fine on those last two plays to tie it up. But I still don't understand not running more. I think Crompton is to blame, but Clawson did call WAY TO MANY PASS PLAYS!! Both are at fault, but Crompton needs to calm down.

You really need to watch the replay. His playcalling got predictable. Run 1st down, play action on 2nd down, and throw because you have to on 3rd.
Its was a comedy of errors on everybodys sholders namely the coaches.

I'll put it like this and leave it like this.

If an employer puts someone in a position and that employee doesn't perform up to task, then who's fault is it. Now if the employer doesn't get rid of the employee in that position after a while then it obviously becomes the employers fault. Thing is, everyone deserves a chance to prove themselves and Cromp does as well. Tonight though, Cromp didn't perform up to the task and made some bad decisions along the way. Just remember that our defense stayed in the locker room the 4th quarter. It is one game and I am not going to freak out like everyone else on this board about Clawson. Clawson will be fine and I think Cromp will be too.

the fact is we may have been somewhat balanced (34 runs 42 passes) but the timing of the play calls were off. We'd run on first down pick up 6 then throw the ball twice and then try a 51 yard field goal.

Not to mention they never utilized crompton's mobility by getting him out of the pocket even as ucla blitzed every down.

And Crompton did throw the deep ball well. There's plenty of blame to go around but when a team's starting 2 qbs are out, starting running back and te goes down and you still lose despite picking the ball 4 times the coaching staff must catch a lot of heat. Esp when we kept doing to same thing all night and made no adjustments.

Clawson is in the business of winning games, not trying to make Crompton feel better about himself. He had guys that could have won the game for us. Instead of using them he let Crompton suck it up. Way to go. Maybe he will be fine. He wasn't tonight.

It's comical to even think about winning the SEC right now. I'm sure that's what Clawson was thinking. "Let's screw this game so we can get Crompton ready for the SEC Championship."

When you have the lead most of the game and you're averaging 6 yards a carry on a team playing an inexperienced qb on the road there's no reason to pass over 40 times.
