Chryst going to start..If JG was ur starter dont u think he would have been at media day

Pruitt couldn't say there was a QB battle and take Guarantano to Media days. It has to remain neutral for now on that, But Chryst won't be the starter unless Guarantano gets hurt.

I don't think anyone should put much stock in your summer predictions.:whistling:

Georgia is overhyped! They are the Tennessee from last year.

Georgia didn't get better toward the end of the season last year they played a lot of close games.

Chubbs isnt the same back that he was before he got hurt

Michel isnt durable enough to be a 4 down back.

Eason is a bright spot but you'll have to run the ball well to get him enough time to throw since your OLine is a question mark.

It should be interesting the team who has been picked to win the SECE the past 4 years hasn't won it.

I think Georgia flops but that is JMO. We will see how it plays out, if they do flop Smart's seat will be getting warm going into year 3!

Go Vols!:)

I personally think that we win 9-10 regular season games, i think that this team with no expectations of winning the SECE finally seals the deal and goes to Atlanta.

I think that Butch will be here a while and I believe that many on here would be very disapointed if he did win 9-10 so then it would come down to we should have been 11-1.

The haters will hate no matter what Butch does with Team 121!:)

One thing to keep in mind is none of our QBs had a chance in whatever CBJs offense had devolved into. Without a Dobbs level runner we were either overpowering the other team (yes, that is sarcasm) or getting 3 and outs left and right. There was never a hint of consistency in the passing game making us one dimensional (and that is being kind).

I don't think we know who our QBs really are but I will say that if we need someone other than JG or Chryst we are riding the pain train anyway.

Coaches will likely put the best option to win out there. Someone who will make quick, smart decisions and protect the ball while consistently moving the chains. Vols won't score a ton of points but we have to increase our ToP in order to avoid gassing the Defense like Botch used to do.

Just my opinion......

no.
Keller chryst's intentions on why he came here holds no bearing on if he will start. Any player goes to a team expecting to play and make an impact, doesn't mean they will. Just like pruitt never would promise the job to JG when he showed up, he didn't promise the job or give assurances to chryst, that's not what a good coach does, that's some butch level stuff.
yep. adding Chryst creates more competition.
Quick,
The performance of a player can really change throughout camp. Shouldn’t it be based on who FINISHES camp as the best prepared and performing QB?
yes.
It is JG's job to lose. JG needs to take the job. If Chryst wins the job, JG likely leaves. If JG leaves, you'll have Shrout, Maurer, another true freshman, and maybe McBride (if he doesn't transfer) as your only scholarship quarterbacks for 2019. You're banking on a quarterback with no snaps helping lead you to a step up in year 2. JG has time to continue to grow and develop whereas Chryst is only here for one season and can't help you down the road because he's only here for one season. For those two reasons, you go with JG as long as Chryst isn't far and away the better quarterback, which he isn't based off of what I've seen of him.
Agreed. we should really hope/want JG to be the guy for the sake of the next couple years.

Coach Pruitt is right about this,It's best to settle on one quarterback for the first game of the season instead of trying to play everyone. I wont be surprised if the starting quarterback for Tennessee against West Virginia is Keller Chryst.

Dormady transferred before the spring.
Chryst didn't "commit" till after.

JG has more arm talent, but McBride is a lot better than people think.

McBride is barely qualified to hold a clipboard on the sideline. If he plays another live snap in his career, I’ll be shocked and we’ll be screwed.

A "quick" decision seems to suggest that Pruitt has a pretty well formed opinion on JG. It could be that he has impressed him and that Chryst will get a look but Pruitt is at the point of naming JG the starter unless he just KC just blows past him. OTOH, (and the spring comments kind of point this way) Pruitt may be waiting for Chryst to confirm in practice what he thinks he brings coming in from Stanford. His impression of JG may be that he isn't ready to run Helton's offense.

Ive stated it before that all our QBs have a chance to start. Shrout maybe the least out of them just due to the fact that he is coming straight from High School and has to learn the playbook.

However, people are trying to say McBride can't contend with JG, and that isn't true. He can and he has shown he has the throwing ability and the ability to make quick decisions.

People are basing his accuracy off of three games where he only started in one game as a True Freshman thrown into the fray with an obliterated O-Line.

JG had 9 games as a Redshirt Freshman to prove that he should be the starter and I didn't see it. Do I think he has the ability? Of course I do.

All our QBs were terrible last year and had bad coaching.

This year will be different and my statements are based on the fact that people are just blatently discounting McBride without giving him a chance, just like they are Shrout or Chryst.

Anyways off my soapbox. Our coaches will put the guy who will win games this year in the starting spot.
from last year's team there are about 4 guys coming back that showed they could start in the SEC. Smith, Warrior, Bituli and Taylor. you could maybe debate a couple more, but in the grand scheme, basing your prediction of who starts where on the 2018 roster based on 2017 results is a fruitless endeavour.

lots of things different now. we'll see how it works out.

i will say this, if McBride is best QB on our roster, we're likely screwed.

he definitely wants more competition than an incoming freshman and will mcbride. and more depth than that too.

I hope Will stays at Tennessee no matter what happens at QB this fall. I just get the feeling he might transfer also to somewhere like Appalachian State.

Memphis. He has an unused redshirt in his pocket and Norvell runs his perfect offense.

Uh heads up JG was 4 TDs / 2 INTs

That's 50%.....(Botched this math) 🤣

Edit:

What I was getting at is that 2/1 Ratio is not that good over 9 games.

McBride was 1/2 over 3 games and only started one of those games.

So to say JG makes less dumb passes just isn't true.

Did you even go to one live game and watch these two. McBride may have moxie but he was not ready and JG has way more upside.

I couldn't this past year with my job and my daughter being born. However, you can see way more on TV then you can in person nowadays. I did however watch every game and then re-watch every game.

That being said, I did state that McBride wasn't ready. I also don't understand how you come to the conclusion that JG has way more upside? How so? Since they are both Sophomores don't they both have the same amount of upside?
