Heupel said something close to that when he addressed the crowd at the basketball game vs Kansas on the 30th. He said, "We're going to assemble one of the best staffs in the entire country...."

So technically you are right. Not "the best" but "one of the best," and not "America," but "the country." Still, awfully close. I did cringe a little when I first heard him say it. On the other hand, what's a coach going to say, that he plans to assemble a mediocre staff?

I get that, but to be fair he probably didn't know that we were all gonna take off work, cancel heart surgeries and weddings and sleep with our phones. Does UCF have a message board?

And, (sorry to pile on), it wasn't even Danny White who said it. It was Josh Heupel who said he hopes to have his staff close to finished by Monday. And he was pretty clear he wasn't talking about making the announcement Monday, that he'd leave that part up to Danny White to get done during the week.

The actual quote was:
"I think by the time we hit the ground next Monday, we'll be close to having our full-time positions filled up and most of our sub-cabinet coaches filled up as well. I'm going to let Danny and our administration handle the announcements next week."

CJH pulled a move straight out of the Fake Insider 101!! He gave an ambiguous timeframe and left it open for interpretation! Was it this Monday? Is it anytime after this past Monday? Have they "hit the ground yet?!? Brilliant move coach! This must have been a class we both took when going to elementary school together back in the 80's.

The underlying urgency is needed for just a few reasons.
1. Spring practice
2. Portal recruitment
3. 2022 recruiting

It really doesn’t matter if it’s today or a few days from now. But at some point we have to move forward.

With that said, I’d rather not hire a defensive staff that you fire next year.
