He's only got about 20 more hires to go.

But this guy should open the recruiting doors up wide for Tennessee to invade South Dakota's recruiting hot bed!

Herb Hand just hired as OL coach at Charlotte!! Was OL coach under Tom Herman. Did they not look at him for UT staff ?

Not saying this guy isn't right guy to guide recruiting, but Mizz recruiting hasn't really been the benchmark of recruiting success. JH needs to hire who he believes is the right fit, but it's also about momentum with staff hires...we need some.
Mizzu had one of their best class's in school history back in 2019 .....literally a top 30 class

Its a wonderfully free country and forum I might add, where all of the “keyboard coaches” can flaunt their “know everything about everything” opinionated knowledge to us all!!! .....only thing missing now are the love songs to Fulmer...when do they start?

I read his bio. If that constitutes a homerun, well, ummm, ok.

The Vol faithful, putting lipstick on pigs since 2009.
Some seem to Love Tennessee to a fault, and some seem to Hate it and call themselves realistic.

Nanna nanna boo boo

Mizzou could take a #31 ranked class and beat the he!! out of a top #15 ranked Tennessee recruiting class
Mizzou got much more from less
Tennessee will have to do like Mizzou and win with less

The Vols are going to be the Generic of the Generic’s and win with very little recruiting hoopla

Good gracious, can we stop being negative before the ink dries. This doesn't mean he is suppose to be our ace recruiter, but in some type of admin/mgt role for our recruiting efforts. Probably means he is very organized, personal & knowledgeable of the processes and how to manage them in a compliant and efficient manner. The coaching hires are where the recruiting muscle should be.
It's called emotionalism and that's were some of our "fans" are. It's generally used to garner attention to one's self without really doing anything of note. It is a most unattractive characteristic ! Makes "respecting" someone like that almost impossible. And once I see it from said posters I generally NEVER read their post again. Its an absolute waste of time because its actually a form of benign narcissisms that probably can't be cured. No need to point it out to them because narcissist's just can't see it!

On the surface, I don't like it. Unless I hear something from the AD, I'm disappointed. It isn't that it won't work, it might, but I was hoping to hear something different in terms of recruiting. Something that says, this is the University's recruiting process....not CJH's recruiting process. It's something I'd never give a HC full control over, especially given recent history. My view is that this should be UT's recruiting process - anything to lessen the potential for violations and mass exodus to the portal whenever coaches leave. Was hoping for a change here, and this isn't saying that.

Interesting take. Recruiting is done by coaches, not the university. The coach must be the one in charge to be able to assemble the team he envisions. He needs to have "his guy" running football recruiting.

Certainly the school oversees (or should) the recruiting methods, budget, offices, etc for compliance and control. I feel certain this hire was passed by the AD, compliance, and probably Chancellor Plowman because of the ongoing NCAA issues.

I just don't understand thinking recruiting should be "done by the school" rather than the coaches.

I'm under no illusion that relationships are a huge factor in terms of recruiting. I don't agree with a HC being given the keys to all of recruiting. We hired White to oversee the program - he chose CJH. Fine. And, yes, I do hope CJH hires are similarly vetted by the University, starting with White. I'm not overly convinced this has actually been done in the past (at least not recently) ..... and definitely NOT with a comprehensive vision/mission. Emphasis on comprehensive.

In my mind I'm exploring a change in recruiting even in the face of reality. Wouldn't it be nice to be recruited by a VFL like Reggie White, Mayo or even Inky, etc., in conjunction with the Staff's position coach. The idea being the VFL's on staff stick around, maybe even for years. As we all know coaches get their dream job tomorrow and are gone fast (Kiffin), or get fired. Combine that with the portal - and your exposure to significant turnover gets high. Anyway, the idea is there is continuity from the athlete, to VFL, to the University. It would minimize/lessen the chances of coach bias and separation anxiety of 1:1 relationship ratio.

As I see it, we're not that competitive with Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Clemson, OSU and others in terms of recruiting (and on the field). Yet we're doing it the same way (McDonald's bags aside), without winning and expecting different results. So we're back to the definition of insanity again. Why? To me its a simple matter, UT needs White to have a vision, exert his control because we hired him, not CJH, and look to do something innovative. We need something that will break the ceiling(s) created by the top 4-5 programs that are in the CFP each year. Just doing the same thing as they are ..... IMO .... will not cut it. And, quite frankly, I can say this exact same thing for the vast majority of P5 programs, because they too are trying to break through.

Heupel hires SEC staff member to initial Tennessee coaching staff | RTI

“Breske just completed his fifth year at Missouri. This past season was his first in the role of director of recruiting for first-year head coach Eliah Drinkwitz. Breske spent the four years prior at Mizzou on the recruiting side, including the 2018-19 seasons as director of recruiting operations. He help the Tigers put together a 2019 recruiting signing class that ranked 31st nationally, a ranking that has been surpassed at Missouri only twice in the last 10 years.“
Nice hire and thanks for the share.
