One defensive player being out should not have resulted In something like this. This falls on the coaches.
Coaches were not the ones missing assignments and whiffing tackles. Flowers was horrible last night, as were the other secondary players. If they decided to throw the game to prove a point, none of them deserves to play another down for UT. Turnage missed tackles, looks like on purpose. Rewatch the game, and you can see who cares and who was just there.

with no LB/DE pressure majority of the night we got exposed more so than any other game. DB’s are a weakness of the team with or without Banks

Seems the defense giving up 63 is at a crossroads. CJH doesn’t owe anyone a reason why a player wasn’t playing, handled by sitting out. That’s all we/press needs to know.
You are correct. We/the press don't need to know why a specific player was or was not disciplined. What the fan base would like to know, before the AD commits to a multi year multi million dollar extension for Josh, is that he truly can react to adversity in what ever form it comes. Player talent, player dissention, coaching schemes, coaching talent, NIL issues awareness, multiple player injuries. Fortunately for Vol fans, we have a near term opportunity for immediate evaluation, Vandy. Another performance like South Carolina, anything less than an ass kicking , we move from pay the man to wait and see. One man's opinion.

Personally, if I was AD, I would take Heupel into a backroom and show him the contract he was going to get for taking the team to the playoffs. I would then light that contract on fire in front of him and walk out. If that does not wake up Heupel's competitive spirit, nothing ever will.

Lol. Heupel and White are tight. There is no show and spectacle he needs to make to have a conversation with Heupel.

I trust Heupel to make changes as he sees fit.

It was more than coaching. Something has happened in that locker room. You can't convince me otherwise

Lol wut? We have gotten torched multiple times on defense this year. We get torched vs SoCar and all of a sudden there's a locker room rift? Lol just stop.

People are still not respecting Spencer Rattler despite the fact that he was a former 5 star QB with a big arm, a former Heisman candidate, and the fact that he's completed nearly 70% of his passes for his ENTIRE college career. He was entirely capable of playing the way he did tonight. Most rational fans admitted as such, and the Vols homers laughed at such a notion.

Missing Banks, who was the on field defensive leader hurt quite a bit. Guys were out of position constantly. And we couldn't get a pass rush all night.

This is nonsense. I'm surprised by some of the takes on this board. The players didn't decide to throw the game. Frankly that is disrespectful to South Carolina just whipping the Vols. They were just not ready or prepared to play, and used bad fundamentals 50% of the team. That IS on the coaches. The ones that can't help us you recruit over if that is even possible at this point. Also if you keep the same defensive staff in place after this then something is wrong. You can't do nothing and expect different results.

Tell me you're not in a management role without telling me you're not in a management role.

Game plan vs effort. The effort was not there. Flowers waiting on Rattler to get the first down, before he even engaged him. Turnage breaking down, and then missing the tackle. That is beyond fundamentals.

absolutely not, he owes us nothing in regards handling of his players. Only explanation is he violated team rules and it was handled, he’ll be back next week. Don’t disagree on one bad apple, we’ve had a lot of bad apples over the last few decades with stuff handled internally that fans never knew about and fans showed up. Silver lining is hopefully a message to the rest of the team to get onboard or get left in Knoxville.

You're living in the Majors era sir. These kids txt, msg and talk daily...and any news...good or bad...travels fast among players and coaches. CJH does owe the fan base an explanation. His recruitment life and season ticket holders depend on communication and problem resolution. I guess you're ok with 70k fans v 102 k in Neyland stadium any given home game Saturday. I do agree CJH has changed the football culture and if you're not on board they can sit in their dorm room or house and watch the game outside the lines...not what a Letter of Intent means. If any of this is true, JBanks needs to bend the knee and apologize to the team. His draft stock went down considerably because of this and he'll be seen as a locker room troublemaker aka Antonio Brown. NIL has and will continue to erode college football.

Banks can apologize to the team, doesn’t mean JH has to say what happened or anything conversations that were had. If players talk and they will it’ll get out. Doesn’t mean JH has to have a press conference each time something happens so fans are aware. I don’t want to alarm you, if we win we will have 100K fans in the stands. Majority are there for the social aspect and have no clue who half the players are and even less about what they do off the field.

You don't Hoss. Something is up. You could see it in our faces tonight. Everyone looked pissed or uninterested.
You’re talking my language dude. I’ve watched so many Vols games over the last 15 years that I may as well be a body language expert for bad games. Nobody gave a sh** … even befor Turnage got hurt he was getting hosed.

That is very true, it’s a sign of immaturity, it’s hard to break old habits and mindsets. I like Banks but he is a hothead and his antics have cost us on the field numerous times with stupid penalties
I was under the impression he had turned a corner. I really considered him the main leader on that side of the ball.

Rumors are that Banks started a fight with Hooker. Milton ended it. Then they told Banks to stay at home.

So yeah, the offensive and the defensive leaders clashed. There had to be much more to it. But the effects were obvious.

Just thinking, I bet Milton could very well end most any fight and especially targeted at his best friend

Lots of factors to the loss.

Our offense has struggled badly twice in hostile environments. Both were losses.

That being said, 38 points should win most games.

Defense was terrible. Pitiful really.

Special teams just sent special. What’s up with never getting a punt return or kick return these days? And the short kicks??? That’s some high school bs.

Bad calls that kept drives alive or killed ours got us last night too. We’ve had a pretty good year with calls going our way but last night not so much. But that alone didn’t lose the game.

Rattler is better than advertised and he just had the game if his life. Partly due to our terrible defense and partly due to him being talented.

The crowd. Man that place was rocking. Not Neyland rocking but close enough to hurt us.

Hooker was off and now he’s out. That’s a terrible loss to the team and for him personally. He’s a good dude who really had a shot at the heisman. I hope he gets an invite either way.

Last night was an epic failure on so many levels.

Time to move on as a team and as a fan base. This has been a great season with two hiccups. Major hiccups I might add but 9-2 with a game left is still great. 9-4 is the worst we could be which is better than many expected. I suspect we end up 11-2 though.

Let’s beat up on little brother Vandy, ruin their bowl hopes, get a good bowl and finish strong.

The majority of fans are NOT students and do not care about social media. They want results through reputable methods. Are you living in the newspaper, broadcast tv and land line phone age? The $500 per game seat ticket price is paid primarily by loyal Vol fans...NOT students. If I wish to continue to pay that much to see a game, rest assured I'm going to find out what happened...through players, board member contacts or other sources. I refuse to support or follow a team that hides information from it's fan base. Integrity and open communication mean something. I refused to follow or support the team under Pruitt because I knew he was sketch under Saban. Go figure. The truth will be revealed through Heup's actions, player comments or staff leaks. I want nothing but the best for the UT athletics department especially the football program.
