Breaking: IU football reaches new 8-year deal with Curt Cignetti
The Penn State noise has been shut down. For the second time in as many years, Indiana has restructured head football coach Curt Cignetti’s contract during the season. The new deal has an ave…www.thedailyhoosier.com
But, but, but Fulmer was a genius for hiring Pruitt (blue font). The game is nuts. What I find interesting is that pic that someone posted that showed Cignetti, Smart and Kiffin all on Saban's staff. Give the man credit. He was confident enough to hire 3 of best current coaches to be on his staff. Leave it to UT to get Pruitt from the bama tree. Geez.
He's winning this year in large part due to a transfer QB he got prior to this season. I think next year will tell the story more on Lea than Cignetti.Guy has won big with a ton of his old players from JMU. Same as Vandy. Still skeptical. Next year will tell the story on both these coaches
As wild as it is to give coaches, regardless of how good they are, this kind of guaranteed money, I don't think this one is as dumb as the Mel Tucker contract. Michigan St gave Mel Tucker big money during his first (and only) breakout season, and that breakout season was in large part due to a single player (Kenneth Walker). Tucker also hadn't proven anything prior to that as a head coach. Not surprised. Although I think he will continue to be successful, I recall Michigan State laying crazy money on their coach who tanked the next year. Earlier this week everyone was posting about exorbitant buyouts, but now we watch an agent put a gun to the administration’s head and walk away with a bag.

At least Indiana is paying Cignetti midway through a second good season, after showing what he did the prior year was repeatable. Plus he was great at the FCS level as a head coach before taking the Indiana job. It certainly is possible that at some point he pulls a Mike Norvell and whiffs on a transfer class though, leading to a really bad season.
Yeah, Kiffin banging on students not showing up was just weird. WTH they don't play for you.Not sure how you can be skeptical. He's still winning on a P4 level. With a school that traditionally people haven't even realized they had a football team. No one, I repeat NO ONE thought of football when they thought of Indiana. But Cignetti is a fun guy to listen to. He is cocky and refreshing but not in a d-bag way like Kiffin can sometimes be. He is just fun. If Heupel left today, he'd be a fantastic replacement. That being said, he ain't leaving IU, nor should he.
I'm not sure there are any dominant teams anymore. His win at Oregon this year was more impressive than any win they had last year. As good as last season was for them, their best win was a nailbiter over a Michigan team, in Bloomington, that finished the regular season 7-5. They were beaten pretty convincingly by the 2 really good teams they played. I still think Oregon is good, and Autzen is a tough place to go play.IU has also during these past two years had a good schedule. Last year they lost to the two good teams they played in Notre Dame and Ohio State. The win at Oregon is always impressive but is Oregon as good as we thought they were honestly? That win at Penn State doesn't hold water now.

I feel like it’s either OSU or Miami. Indiana looks great, but I’m not entirely convinced they’re championship quality just yet. And Bama feels too inconsistent to be considered the best.College and the NFL are both in a spot this season where there is no clear-cut favorite. I guess Ohio State would be my pick but that's still not a lock by ANY means.
Indiana realizes they might not ever have the opportunity to break into the revenue that Colege Football can yield over the next century. This is an investment in that. Not many programs who are trying to do the same thing bring in a guy who is proven, let alone proven at their school.Got a new contract at IU for 11.6M per year.

He's an incredibly smug and cocky guy who benefited from a soft schedule last year (and lost convincingly to the 2 good teams he played), but what he's done there is still amazing. The Mendoza pickup in the Portal has paid enormous dividends.
I’m very dubious that their improvement will hold long term. Even Vandy has won more games than them historically. But we’ll see. No doubt he’s an excellent coach though
Pawwwl , either has really surface level takes, or parrots what he gleams from Sankey. Back before he went national and had just a B'ham radio show, and was still writing columns, his opinion was still valuable.Finebaum is a Alabama window licker... Anyone considered a good coach outside of the SEC he poo poo's on....
