Christmas in Memphis

I got two tickets from a colleague who got a chance to buy more because he is a season ticket holder. We will be in the lower level. I haven't decided if I am wearing orange since we will basically be a season ticket section. I think the couple next to us (also a friend of my colleague) will also be rooting for UT.

Need all the orange we can get.

"Haven't decided?" Weak...

Yea, well, if I had purchased them myself, then it wouldn't be an issue. But I will be in a section where season ticket holders get extras. It's a courtesy thing, and I think I have been to enough games (both football and basketball) that I can't get my fan-card revoked.

I think there will be more orange in the Forum this year than any other Memphis/Tennessee game there.

223 here. Nosebleed was all they had at 12:01 am Dec 3rd

I know I was hoping to get a little closer but I couldn't swing some of the prices. I'm happy just to be going. This is the first time I'll be able to see a Tennessee Volunteer team play regardless of the sport. I really hope to get to Knoxville one day.

Just got 3 tickets for me and my folks in section 212, row T can't wait for next weekend.

I’m also in 212, row P. Can’t wait for this game. Originally from Knoxville, but have been in Memphis the past three years, even have a Master degree from Memphis, but none of me will be cheering the Tigers on.

Glad to hear that! Go Vols!

Cheerfully ignorant question: will the game be televised locally? We’ll be in MEM that weekend, but we can’t pry my mother (big Tiger High/ Grizzlies fan back in the day) to go anywhere these days. 😔

Very easy drive and very few cops. 80mph the entire way instead of 50 thru Memphis and dealing with traffic backup at 240.

out of everything said...who drives 50 in Memphis? lol speed limit in the city is 55 and most do 65-70

also traffic is now much better with our new 3 level 40/240 split...

Isn't downtown Memphis the safest place in Memphis. Was there not long ago. Enjoyed good food. Cops everywhere.

yep...38103 (downtown), which includes the South Bluffs, Harbor Town, South Main, and Beale Street is quite safe...38104 (midtown) is also safe and includes the Zoo, Overton Square, and Cooper-Young. You also have the East Memphis 38120/38119 area along with Germantown, Collierville, Bartlett, etc.

Well, I have to say that the transition from I-40 to 240 south (or west or whatever it is) to get to the Walnut Grove exit around 5:15 has a definite pucker factor!

yeah, I have to do it at 730am since I'm living in Bartlett but work off Walnut Grove and Humphreys...the fact it slows down kinda works out for me because I can put on my blinker towards the end of the flyover and slowly merge all the way to the right lane....I've learned I need to be in the right lane by the time I get to the "Dr Pat Clark dds" sign lol

but if you live in a city of a million people I just expect traffic to be crap from 430-6pm. Germantown Pky looks like 'Field of Dreams' at 5pm....

It's funny how living in a small city (Asheville, where I can drive from one side of the city to the other in 15 minutes, if no cops are around) changes one's tolerance of traffic.

I still hit Memphis once a month or so and enjoy it, but driving on Poplar in the Perkins-240 exit area at any time of day features me saying "pleasepleasepleasepleasepleaseplease" for the entire stretch.

Plus of course, "No train! No train!!!"

yep. I'll be SO glad when they're done adding the lanes on the interstate from Walnut Grove to the 385 exit...it just makes that Poplar exit a nightmare...

I expect there to be a good bit of orange simply because you guys are damn good and Beale St is a fun trip...but you also have to understand that Memphis is trying to show out for Penny. We know this seasons team doesn't have the raw talent to compete but Penny has help on the way and there is still plenty of hope left in the fan base.

it looks to be really good weather downtown next Sat (51 and sunny) so y'all should be able to have fun on Beale before the game.

It’ll be a quick 20 min drive downtown for me :)

I am nervous, because this is the biggest game of the year for Memphis and the biggest home game. They will pull out all the stops in this one. I expect it to be competitive for 40 minutes.

I think it’ll be close as well. Also first true road game of the season for us.
