Christianity is the single biggest reason for atheism today. They acknowledge Jesus with their lips but ignore him with their actions.

Paraphrased from relient k

actually it is from Brennan Manning. DC Talk used it to open "What If I Stumble".

The Greatest single cause of Atheism in the world today are Christians who acknowledge Jesus with their lips and walk out the door and deny Him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable

I don't know that there is any real way to prove that, but in my experience most if not all the atheists I know (including myself) are atheists because we don't think the ideas of religion, creation, and omnipotent being, etc. make a lot of sense.

That is not to knock on anyone who believes in God, because I am sure you feel the same way about me.

To each their own is how I feel about athiests.

yes, and I agree with you. I'm a believer in Christ, but I cannot be a member of 99% of churches because they preach intolerance.

Yeah I agree. Most churches I've ever been in make me scratch my head and wonder if Jesus really had this in mind. I'm just thankful I have a church that accepts people where they are and teaches the bible, not our own man-made opinions of religion. It's hard to find.

I don't feel any certain way towards you, personally. I respect you for what you believe, and even though we disagree, I'm not going to tell you you're wrong and going to hell and all of that stuff. I can just tell you that in my experience, it's real.

It's ironic how wrongly thought of that quote is. Not only does DC Talk mention failing to live up the perfect view of Christianity, but Manning himself has suffered through numerous bouts of alcoholism since the 1960s.

The problem people see with churches that troubles me, is too many people expect them to be perfect. You are never going to find the perfect church. There are too many thoughts and ideals that differ. Christians need to quit trying to find problems with every church and instead coming together to celebrate Christ. It's the same reason atheists and other Non Christians bash Christianity so much. We, as Christians, are supposed to strive for perfection, but even God knows we are not capable of attaining that perfection.

I'm listening to that cd tomorrow. I miss dc talk. And five iron frenzy.

Jesus Freak is my personal favorite DC Talk song.

"People say I'm strange, does that make me a stranger, that my best friend was born in a manger?"

Yep. I just wish we'd stop looking down our noses at people who don't look/dress/act/believe like us. I can't imagine any atheist being attracted to someone who acts like that towards them. I guess it still shocks me to this day because I KNOW Jesus didn't do that.

5 iron was pretty good. I never saw em live. I saw dctalk and audio adrenaline like 3 times from the front row, they were incredible live.

i'm a huge third day fan. Thief will always remain my favorite Christian song.

Saw Jeremy Camp, Third Day and The Elms at the Smokies ballpark a few summers back. The Elms stole the show and to this day remain one of my favorite bands even though very people know who they are.

I know the elms. Third Day will forever be my favorite band of all genres. Hyper Static Union is incredible if you don't know who they are. They're worth checking out.

For the longest time as a teenager this very thing turned me against Christianity....I was truly ostricized by bible beaters and youth group members in my home town because I didn't follow them and do what they thought I should do...

I realized as I grew older and got out of that backwood, pohdunk town that my issues with Christianity weren't ones of belief but instead it was a distaste towards organized Christianity that stemmed from being so mistreated by those types...

I now know as a grown man that I firmly believe in God and that Jesus was his son and was sent to save us from our sins...

But I look back at my situation as a young man and I know that it's not uncommon...who knows how many people have been turned away from something so great because a bunch of idiots think they are the only ones who understand the will of God and the teachings of Jesus and if you don't agree with them you are going to Hell and they are going to let you know it every day....

It scares me that some people can take such a powerful and important thing and turn people against it because they are so deeply self-righteous and they don't realize that...1.) That is exactly what God doesn't want us to be....and...2.) It has such a negative effect on the ability of other Christians to reach people and show them the true meaning of our religion

A little late but I've seen Third Day and they are incredible. My music tastes are all over but... Pillar is great, they'll be back in Knoxville in Oct. or Dec. I believe and P.O.D. live is awesome. Both have used Travis Wyrick to produce music in his studio off Northshore in west Knoxville.

When it's all said and done it doesn't matter why you chose to not believe. It won't matter what type of music you chose to listen to. You won't get a mulligan because someone hurt your feelings. Do you believe that Jesus is the Son of GOD and that he died to save you of your sin, even though you don't deserve it? Everything else is just stuff to get in the way of you and your relationship with GOD.
