And many "church types" are sincere in their beliefs and actions.

But the ones who aren't cast doubt on those who are.

Did you hear about the Catholic priest who....

Due to my upbringing, I've had the opportunity to see multiple religions...and more hypocrisy than in any other single facet of life.

Because of my experiences, my "religion" is karma. Do good things and goodness will follow you. If your heart is black...well.......

Wow...how did I get off on this rant? Religion is definitely not my thing. "You will be eternally damned if...." If what? I don't agree with the man leading your church?

I'll take my chances.

Thats the problem, actually 2 problems in my opinion: 1. You're looking for religion, not a relationship. 2. If you're following the man leading the church, you're following the wrong guy. It's all about Jesus...no religion, no preacher at a church. Not saying you're wrong or anything, just my observations..it seems especially bad in the south that we put the emphasis on church buildings, the color of the carpet, the pews, the man-made doctrines that aren't even biblical, denominations, and making church our little social club, a clique if you will. I dare say Jesus wouldn't even be accepted in most of our churches...and knowing the people he spent the majority of his time around, he wouldn't want to be in our churches today. That's why I follow him and him only and fortunately the church I go to does the same. I can't say that of the majority of churches in the area I live. I'll stop now, sorry for the rant.

i think the issue w/ this guy is that he is a christian music artist, and him being gay kind of contradicts what the bible says. idk just saying
There are plenty of sins in the bible that the average Christian breaks on a daily basis. What makes the "sin" of homosexuality any different than any of those?

Well the bible I read says that all sins are the same according to God, except for blasphemy of the holy spirit.
So you would be correct in my mind. A sin is a sin to God...humans put different levels of ''bad'' on them.

Exactly, so why is there any social stigma for this fellow from certain Christians?

Well its just some christians putting emphasis on certain sins over others. You know gay people aren't exactly welcome in a lot of churches around here. There are some churches who don't want them. What if we did the same thing to adulterers/gossipers/liars/thieves?

I guess being gay is a more public sin than committing adultery. The reality of it is, my lustful thoughts are no different than this guy being gay.

When I attended church (long time ago), I decided to do a social experiment. I have many gay friends and people hate on them. One day, the pastor preached about gays and how they're bad and stuff (more to it but you get the point). Anyways, I told several church members that I was gay (I'm not, but that's beside the point). I wanted to see how long before I was not welcome at the church anymore. It took all of 2 Sundays before the entire congregation knew and I was asked to go to "therapy" or stop attending.

I had already given up on religion before that.

Was this guy outspoken against gays? Seems like many men that are fanatically anti-gay end up coming out of the closet later on. I bet that in a few years John Rich will announce he's homosexual.

See, I'm with ya. That's not what Jesus did EVER. He was almost always hanging with the crowds the religious people didn't want to be around. I'll just go on record as saying church is where people like this need to be. BUt not just any church. A church that accepts people even though we understand what they're doing is a sin. Not a damning eternal sin, but a sin. It's something people struggle with, it's not the unforgivable sin according to the bible I'm reading. Why in the world would you kick them out on the streets when you let the adulterers stay? You'd probably do well to give up on religion, I just wouldn't give up on Jesus. He wasn't a religion, he's a relationship. I'm ranting again..sorry.

Random Story: Man, I remember in elementary school (fire and brimstone Christian school), we were subjected to watching the video of Ray Boltz' "I Pledge Allegiance to the Lamb" over and over again throughout the years. The entire story centers around this guy sentenced to death in what I assume is the end times. Eventually, at the end, he is ripped away from his son in their prison cell by what appear to be storm troopers and executed. Great rainy day entertainment for a group of 3rd/4th graders.

Between that video and other things which happened at that school, I think I'm the only child not to have nightmares about monsters, but to have nightmares about the end of the world and the Battle of Armageddon.

I don't have a problem with him being gay, however.

Yeah Ill be honest...I have a much bigger problem with his music than his gay-ness. Always have.

It is sad, but you know the saying: ''It would be a lot easier to be a christian if it weren't for all the christians." I agree with that and I am one.

Christianity is the single biggest reason for atheism today. They acknowledge Jesus with their lips but ignore him with their actions.

Thanks..I'm just sick of the religious people making church and making Jesus something he never wanted to be. Christianity is the single greatest thing that ever happened to the world and it took the church 2,000 years to screw it up.

Christianity has been screwed up far longer than that

I don't know that there is any real way to prove that, but in my experience most if not all the atheists I know (including myself) are atheists because we don't think the ideas of religion, creation, and omnipotent being, etc. make a lot of sense.

That is not to knock on anyone who believes in God, because I am sure you feel the same way about me.

yes, and I agree with you. I'm a believer in Christ, but I cannot be a member of 99% of churches because they preach intolerance.
