Chris Peterson

Patterson is 60 years old. I highly doubt that he's looking to jump to a mismanaged SEC school to finish out what is left of his career, unless he just wants to get the 'orange parachute' into retirement.

That ship has sailed. He's not leaving TCU to come here. If Texas fires Herman and strikes out with their first couple of choices, Texas could make him an offer he can't refuse (The AD at Texas is his former boss). As @butchna mentioned earlier, he's in real tight with several of the boosters and he'll likely coast into retirement in a few years.

I would just add this bit of wisdom....I strongly suspect we will have a full year to have this discussion so don't use up all you're "what if's"(after all that's what make this board so precious :D:D). Let's save about 1/2 of them for next fall or whenever. JMO of course.

Just wondering what everyone’s opinion would be if we did hire Chris Peterson. Personally I think it would be a home run hire, he did well at Boise State and Washington, and could establish a recruiting connection on the west coast.
Home run hire, but not happening. He doesn't want to be in the South. We have about as much chance of getting him as we do Meyer or Stoops.
Have we given up on Gary Patterson?
Should have hired him instead of Kiffin. But that ship sailed way back then. He's probably done when he leaves TCU. I doubt he'll want to start over somewhere else after spending 20+ years there.

Petersen is retired now I believe. Doubt he's coaching for anyone ever again.

As for Patterson, it might be time for him to move on from TCU. Not sure he ever wants to coach anywhere else, but they've certainly plateaud the last few years. Not a glowing recommendation, but maybe it's a little bit like Mack Brown and Texas. He was there 15 years, but it grew stale and now he's turned UNC around very quickly.

Obviously doesn't mean he wants to come here either though.

I would love Peterson to coach here but I don’t see him leaving the West Coast, especially where he has a special needs child.

Geeze people. Tenn will Never Hire Peterson OR Paterson. Also Tenn will never fire Pruitt. Extension, extension; "On the right track." FREEZE or bust.

Exactly! Why is everyone making post about coaches that are about as likely as me winning the powerball.
Freeze should be 1A, 1B and 1C on the list.
When coming up with these coaching ideas ask 3 questions first;
1: Has he proven to be HC material
2: Can he win in the SEC
3: Would he be Happy to Come to UT
If it’s not a definite yes to all 3 then , next
,
He also Cheated,
Broke Numerous NCAA rules
Paid money to recruits and their families
Broke Numerous SEC rules
Brought questionable players into his school
Had Dirty players in his program who accepted his money,
GOT CAUGHT CHEATING BY NCAA
GOT CAUGHT CHEATING BY SEC
GOT OLE MISS PLACED ON MAJOR NCAA PROBATION because of his illegal recruiting
Got a show cause penalty leveled on him by NCAA and SEC,
Only won at Ole Miss when he put together a team ILLEGALLY .

Other than that , he is a great choice

SO your saying there's still a chance...

Sorry couldn't resist my friend.
ALL of those points you bring up are EXACTLY why I'm not 100% on board with Freeze yet.
However, the more time he spends at Liberty the more I feel comfortable that he has changed ways and is doing it right this time.

Question after that is would he still do it the right or would he succumb to the pressure cooker called the SEC and slide back into the old ways...you have to know that IF Sankey and the SEC signs off on the hiring of Freeze he is going to be under a microscope for several years.

It is going to be weird having two head coaches cause Fulmer is not firing Pruitt (unless we lose to Vandy Saturday).

That won’t do it either.. CPF has told multiple people CJP will NOT be fired this season!

And trust me on this,, NO SEC TEAM, NOT ONE, would want to be under the microscope of the NCAA and the SEC..

Actually, CHF punishment was pretty light. The SEC and NCAA deemed the assistants were doing the infractions without the knowledge or consent of the Head Coach. That is why he was eligible to be an assistant right away without sitting out any conference games.

That would be a great hire but he's living the good life retired, but hey money talks....so with that being said UT won't go after him

On topic the problem with all these top tier coaches is you have too tier jobs that will be available. If you’re completely unbiased you realize Texas and USC are better jobs, Michigan is also probably a better job. Tennessee has one of the toughest schedules year in and out and recruiting is tough. You can probably land an easier job with more money if you’re an elite coach.

Tennessee has their chance to land a top guy in Freeze. Sure he has baggage but he checks more boxes than anyone else available. Hell it’s arguable that he’s a bargain bin version of Meyer.
