Chris Petersen thread (merged)

This is the first post in this thread. ^

What in the hell makes anyone think that he will pack up, move his family across the country and leave a perennial top 10-15 team to coach this disaster? Exactly. It would take a lot of money. A lot of money that if UT was willing to spend, we wouldn't have been left with Schiano. A homerun hire IS NOT going to happen. This isn't UT of the 90s. Get a grip. We're done for the near future. Accept it. I know, the truth hurts.

I agree at this point Petersen prob wouldn't come for any amount of money.

You may want to actually look something up before posting.

How on earth is Washington a perennial top 10-15 team?
They have finished in the top 15 only 14 times in their over 100 years of football existence.

Heck they have only finished the season ranked in the top 25, once in the past 15 years........last year........and only ranked in the top 15 twice in the past 24 years......and only finished ranked at all 3 times over the past 20 years.

If Petersen was a pipe dream on Saturday, what is he now?
Hiring Petersen at this point would be like hitting a grand slam off of a major league pitcher with a banana for a bat.

LOL Well its not going to happen, and I don't care if we offer him $50Mil a year, the man ain't coming to Knoxville. Its amazing to me how mindboggling sipid some UT fans are. Maybe you should start a March for Chris Petersen, post it on Facebook, get a Twitter campaign, maybe that would work. :eek:lol::good!::eek:lol:

Did you read my post and conclude that I think we can get Petersen?

That's your conclusion?

I wrote that to joke about how silly it is to think we can land him.

You did all that research, yet I was referring to HIS time there. He reached the Playoff in year 3 and will finish 10th-15th this year. His success there will continue, no doubt. My point is that he is set for years to come in a less competitive conference. Why start over?

You said why would he leave a perennial top 10-15 team.

Even if you meant "since he has been there" one time doesn't suffice as perennial.

Sure they have the opportunity to finish in the top 15 this year........but they haven't yet.......right now they are 13, a bowl win and yea they are.......a bowl loss and nope.

Petersen is a great coach, but so far Washington is not a perennial anything...........yet.

Also you don't need to do a ton of research on anything; however when posting numbers or stats.......just take a few seconds.

I'm thinking ahead here, dude.

Ugh...he ain't coming, man.

Chris Petersen would be a homerun hire.

He is a proven winner with an .822 winning percentage.

He has 12 years experience as a head coach with an overall record of

129-28.

His buyout is only $1.5M

No, you mentioned how much better Washington was when Petersen took over, with their phenomenal 7-6 record 3 years in a row followed by one 9-4 season. And then went on to mention they had losing seasons only in 04-09. Tennessee had losing seasons only in 05, 08, 10, 11, and 12 before Butch Jones took over and was more dominant than Washington during the 90s and early 2000s and never dropped to a record of 1-10 and 2-9 like Washington did in 2004 and 2005. I know Washington is a good team historically but to say they were so much better at the time they hired Petersen is ridiculous.

Why are you talkin about when Butch Jones took over? We’re talking about now. You’re all over the place.

Washington had 4 straight winning seasons, the last being 9-4 right before Petersen took over. We just went 4-8 with an abysmal offense and defense.

The team Petersen took over at Washington was much better off than than where Tennessee is right now. What is so hard to understand about this?

Why is there no more talk about Petersen when he should have been a top 3 target to begin with?

Amen and AAAAAAAAAAMEN!

Where is Petersen? Why is his name not talked about so much more?

Have they offered him a Brinks truck? I would make him turn down at least 8 million a year.

We never targeted him. Never planned on spending the right money for a coach. He probably wouldn't come before. Definitely won't come now. Currie and Haslam are incompetent. Thread.

Read this very slowly...

No GOOD coach will work for Haslam uhhh I mean UT....

We need to turn this ship around and refocus on Petersen. (If it's true we have not targeted him) I think a hire like Petersen is the ONLY way Currie gets to make the hire and not be fired.

nope. been going for a while with lots talked with.. sorting through who he likes and who he wants to close with.. Mullen waiting might mean focus is on someone else at the moment. someone more desirable.

Any news? What do you think about todat?

Not Larry, but I suspect Fulmer will get back in contact with coaches that fit what we are looking for and try to get them to reconsider now that he's the AD. I also believe Fulmer will get back in the recruiting mode and that may help with this upcoming class. If anything, Fulmer is competitive. He's seen...and likely aided...Curries inability to get a good coach to UT. Don't you know that he'd love to wrap up a coach in the next 24-48 hours when Currie couldn't get it done in weeks? I honestly think we will certainly have a new coach before the weekend is up.

UW employee and Vol alum checking in. The AD wouldn't be doing their job if they didn't reach out to everyone possible, including Peterson. That said, this is never going to happen. It's a waste of time to even think about it.

I grew up in the PNW and have had UW ties my whole life and my dad is a season ticket holder. There's a huge segment of UW fans who loathe the late starts, and it has nothing to do with exposure. UW fans are used to playing in the afternoons, it's simply how things were done in the Pac 10, before expansion and big TV contracts. So it's partially a matter of tradition. I think Peterson hears the fan's complaints and sees it when the stadium is half empty at 10:00 because people don't want to fight traffic to get home before midnight.

So long as Peterson is there, Washington is a top 15 team. They've got the money (like UT, their athletic department makes $) they've got the facilities, and they've got the fan base.

Do you think Peterson will ever leave UW and if so where will he go. IMO he is easily in top two or three coaches in the country. BTW just came back from a business trip to Bremerton. Beautiful there.
