Chris Petersen thread (merged)

They were pretty damn good in the 90’s and turn of the century. They had losing seasons 04-09. That’s it.

Hmmm... I swear I though we were pretty damn good in the 90's and turn of the century as well. Must have all been a dream, since apparently Washington was so much better during that time.

Perhaps reading comprehension isn’t your thing. I posted nothing about Tennessee. I responded to a poster who said Washington has been terrible for the last two decades. They haven’t.

Someone also mentioned that Washington is where Tennessee is now when Petersen took over. That’s not true either.

Hard to remember for some but they won a national title in 1991. For today’s kids it’s not especially further back than 1998. 14 conference titles in the same conference as USC and UCLA.

Negative. Sarkisian was Washington’s coach before Petersen. They were nowhere near as low as we had now.

2010 7-6
2011 7-6
2012 7-6
2013 9-4
2014 Christ Petersen first year.

With that said, i want Petersen. But we won’t get him.

No, you mentioned how much better Washington was when Petersen took over, with their phenomenal 7-6 record 3 years in a row followed by one 9-4 season. And then went on to mention they had losing seasons only in 04-09. Tennessee had losing seasons only in 05, 08, 10, 11, and 12 before Butch Jones took over and was more dominant than Washington during the 90s and early 2000s and never dropped to a record of 1-10 and 2-9 like Washington did in 2004 and 2005. I know Washington is a good team historically but to say they were so much better at the time they hired Petersen is ridiculous.

Probably no way Petersen gets any where near this now if he was eve approached.

Across the state though Leach probably looks at this and giggles his ass off with glee wanting a shot at it!

I’m telling you we could have had Petersen if we tried. He’s attainable. Low salary compared to what we could pay him. Buyout is low. He was interested.

After today’s fiasco it probably hurt us. But in some cases it makes the next guy look like hero to the fans maybe not the AD. But the fans will like next guy.

Only way for ad to save face is to hire Petersen. Only big name that’s truly attainable. If you hire Chris Petersen fans will love that. And it doesn’t save the ad job immediately but it quiets the fans momentarily it’s really curries only hope

I doubt he would even answer the call. Even if he did, it would take crazy Gruden money to get him. Haslam/Currie won't do that. They will go as cheap as they can get away with.

Petersen should be offered the BANK! Give him 10 million a year. 12 million. 15 million.
I don't care. Do it - and do it now! 10, 12, 15 million will be chicken feed once he starts beating Alabama!

I've said for years this guy should be considered one of the top 5 coaches in the nation.

Look what he's done with far less talent!

This has always been the best hire and should have been in the bag weeks ago.

I'm not sure we could have got either. But, Petersen and Patterson should have had all the money we could muster chucked at them the second we decided to make a change.

I heard on the radio he may have some interest and may have been contacted. If so he definitely moves to number 1 on the coaching list. Lets hope he is tired of the West Coast and lack of publicity.

This is the first post in this thread. ^

What in the hell makes anyone think that he will pack up, move his family across the country and leave a perennial top 10-15 team to coach this disaster? Exactly. It would take a lot of money. A lot of money that if UT was willing to spend, we wouldn't have been left with Schiano. A homerun hire IS NOT going to happen. This isn't UT of the 90s. Get a grip. We're done for the near future. Accept it. I know, the truth hurts.

Yeah, Petersen is a pipe dream, its not about money to him. People don't understand that. There is nobody I would love to have more than this guy, never happening, at any price.

If Petersen was a pipe dream on Saturday, what is he now?
Hiring Petersen at this point would be like hitting a grand slam off of a major league pitcher with a banana for a bat.

This might have worked two weeks ago. John Currie made this and any other great hire impossible. He did more damage over the past week than Jones, Hart, Hamilton and Dooley did in a decade. John Currie is the worst hire in the history of the program. Its not close, and he made every good hire impossible for half a decade.
