I believe the odds on Gruden are roughly Zero Percent.
So, if it’s Petersen or Gruden, then it’s Petersen.
And, if both are options, the right choice is Petersen, and that’s not even remotely close at all.

For years I have hoped he would get in the mix. This is the closest we’ve come to Petersen..at least in a news story. This would be a major homer in coach. If Currie lands him, I’d say we got an amazing AD...we’ll see. While I was always interested in the Grumors, I would take Petersen every time over Gruden...hands down.

Sexton will get Butch a job, which will alleviate some of the cost of his buyout.

That's going back a ways but it's still too small and varied a sample set to say anything about "what UT does."

After the name hire with Majors, there wasn't another hiring opportunity till Kiffin (Phil doesn't count because he was already in place, there was no search). Kiffin was a splash name hire, just the wrong kind. Dooley's hire wasn't a matter of only looking at the bottom shelf, there just wasn't any self-respecting decent coach that wanted to step into the ugliness Kiffin left behind. And after Dooley was finished trashing the place it was even less desirable.

I think this time around is the first opportunity to find out "what UT does."

Urban Meyer never coached in the south before he was hired by UF.

As a head coach, he was 17-6 at Bowling Green and 22-2 at Utah.

Petersen has posted records of 92-12 at Boise and 36-16 at Washington.

He would be a grand slam of a hire. I would be incredibly happy with this hire and he would win big in Knoxville.

I still doubt that the same AD and Booster who wanted to keep Jones if at all possible will end up hiring an A-lister, but I would love to be wrong.

I would be so happy, it wouldn't be funny. I've pretty much given up on the Gruden hire, but Petersen would be a grand slam, out of the park hire. Would be so unexpected and make so many people mad over on the Northwest, but think about the exposure he'd get. Top notch facilities,everyone is always clamoring that the SEC is the best conference and we forget about the Pac-12 because of the lack of prettiness the conference brings. Obviously this is just a rumor, but I would be really happy.

Said this before. I think Petersen is one of a very small handful of coaches that can unite the fan-base.. He could be a 1b option to Gruden's 1a..

Did a phenomenal job at Memphis, doing a great job at Virginia Tech....38-13 his last four seasons. What’s he won?.....how about ACC Coach of the Year last year. In short, a helluva lot more than your boy Butch Jones who you’re still mourning over.

Would be a great hire. No chance in hell hes ever coming here imo
