Chris Petersen thread (merged)

And that kid still had the health issue 4 years ago when he decided to move from Boise State to Washington, which was the destination job he wanted.

IF his people really did reach out to Tennessee, which I doubt they did, it likely wasn’t due to serious interest in the Vols job....probably time to get everybody a raise.

The son was considered fully recovered 4 years ago, and prior to his leaving Boise. That son is college age now.

I’m a poor contractor who happens to know a couple of people with a lot of money. Lol
I’ve kept my mouth shut for the most part this time because they were so wrong about everything last time.

Know that feeling.

I hope you are right about Peterson. If Currie tried to go underground with this hire and lands Peterson he will be elevated to Zeus status in my eyes. I have made no bones about wanting Frost and thinking he is the main target for a while with Mullen not far behind. When Larry posted about Peterson being a possibility I got excited as THAT would be a splash hire. Frost would be a great hire, Mullen a good hire, Peterson would be a grand slam!

Saban and Meyer hadn't proved they could win in the SEC when they went to LSU and Florida. I am wondering if this news about Austin Thomas coming back to UT is important. Others thought he would be there for Gruden to run compliance and other college-related affairs that Gruden would have trouble with, but I wonder if it means that that he could act as a bridge for someone from outside the region who doesn't know the territory, like Petersen.

Petersen would be the best hire Tennessee has made since I became a fan in 1985. Big time home run hire.

SIAP

Multiples sources, in UT athletics as well as boosters, executives and former players, said that Currie flew to the West Coast earlier this week to “gauge (Petersen’s) interest” in the Volunteers’ opening before Currie flew to the Bahamas to join Rick Barnes’ basketball team at the Battle for Atlantis tournament. Currie was scheduled to fly back to Knoxville Thursday
Volunteers expected to decide on next head coach in matter of days

More like a bases loaded home run

Trey Wallace listed several candidates on Twitter that Currie has talked to, either directly or through back channels, and Petersen was one of them. Wallace has been money this whole cycle.

VolNugs also has some writing that he is attributing to John Brice indicating that Petersen may be seriously in play, but doesn't give any link to where Brice reported it. Points out that because of cost of living differences between Seattle and Knoxville, the $4.8 million Petersen makes at UW would be equivalent to $6.58 million at Tennessee.

I think Frost would be risky. Would he just bolt for Nebraska? Never know. Although I do think he would be very good at Tennessee. I am holding out hope for Petersen.

I have said this before, but if Tennessee is thinking about offering a coach 7-10 million, then I dont see why you dont offer Petersen 7-8.

Nebraska will have an opening at the end of the season and I am certain they have been in touch with Frost already as have we. We would not have to worry about him bolting if he chose us over them this cycle.

I agree though Peterson would be stupid good hire, best in my almost 50 years bleeding orange!

I am getting a bit excited at the thought of Petersen. I agree that we should offer a starting salary of 6MM per year with a couple more million holding in our back pocket if needed. Cost of living-wise, that would equate to about 8 - 10MM in his pocket.

So with all of the Gruden play on words think of the fun we could have with Petersen!!!

Somehow I am guessing Freak would kill it tho 😔

Edit: for example the post right above this one 😬

Interesting that Gruden was in Seattle around the same time Currie was apparently there to meet with Petersen. Maybe all this time Gruden has actually be helping us get our actual target...

I've considered this. It'd fit in line with his unwarranted Rocky Top mention as well.

Well, I thought a lot less of our chances and thought we would be turned down and forced to search in the lower levels in the 2nd tier bins........so Petersen or someone in the same category would surprise me.....
I still think the boards will begin to light up Sunday and Sunday night

I have a feeling news will start to leak out tomorrow night about an hour after the game ends. The team will likely be told who the new coach is and they’ll all be too excited to be quite.

I’m still not positive who it is be by all accounts we’ve come to an agreement with someone.

I’m a Petersen lean at the moment

Wooo!

Weren't you saying Strong last time though? Apparently it came pretty close to being him.
