Chris Petersen thread (merged)

Why do you say it has to be somebody already coaching? The fact that no one has been named could also mean the incoming coach wants to let this staff finish out the season without distraction. It’s a matter of professional courtesy as these guys will be looking for jobs come Sunday morning.

The rest of the coaching staff will be named weeks or even months after a new head coach. That doesn’t hold much weight.

The fact that no one has been named yet also shows that Currie’s selection is currently coaching somewhere.

This makes no sense. No one names a new head coach while the season is still ongoing. Even if it was Gruden, he wouldn’t be announced until the conclusion of the regular season. Urban Meyer wasn’t coaching in 2011, yet Ohio State still waited until after the regular season finale against Michigan to announce the hiring. Steve Spurrier wasnt coaching in 2004, yet South Carolina waited until four days after the season to announce his hiring.

There wasn't a December 20-22 early signing period then, either. There is now.

Tennessee would have to pay the 9 mil buyout within 45 days.........they are not going to do that.

McElwain had a $7 million buyout at Colorado State. Florida ended up shelling out $3 million out of pocket. Everything’s negotiable. :cool2:

Doesn’t matter. If you name your coach this weekend you still have near a month before the early signing period. Chip Kelly isn’t coaching at the moment. Why hasn’t he been hired yet? Because no one hires a new coach before the completion of their regular season.

No one announces it, but no one is waiting to do the interviews. And yes, no coach is going to uproot on his team mid-season. But now all these programs are going to want to announce Sunday to take advantage of any time they have before that early period.

Someone give a good argument against it being Peterson.

The fact that Currie flew to the West Coast to talk with Peterson this week and then IMMEDIATELY flew to the Bahamas and spent two days there is telling when you think about it. That’s not the actions of a man on a time-sensitive coach search.

Also telling are that reports have proven false about Mullen being interviewed after the Peterson unofficial interview. Seems like Mullen has/had interest and Currie could use that to cover tracks and throw people off the trail. When that was proven to be false by multiple sources (that Mullen was interviewed), the signs point back to Peterson.

The fact that no one has been named yet also shows that Currie’s selection is currently coaching somewhere. Reports are now saying UT is preparing to announce a new coach this weekend. This tells me that the coach will not be playing in a conference championship game either. Again, this points to Peterson (and also eliminates Frost and Norvell).

UW plays in the Apple Cup tomorrow, a big game for the State of Washington. They will have a bowl game but not a conference championship game. Peterson took UW to the playoffs last year, a modern pinnacle for that program. Peterson would have no problem stepping down after their final game tomorrow and not coach the final bowl game since it’s not a playoff bowl and he recently took them there last year. It’s the perfect time to exit.

A lot of things are lining up but in a good way. Because of these things and the other reasons previously mentioned by others, I fully see Chris Peterson being named the next Head Coach either Sunday or Monday.

Why believe in some reports and not others?

Sure they due, history shows otherwise.

Chris Peterson doesn’t make logical sense. He was born and raised in California. He has always been in the West Coast. Doesn’t make any sense for him to come here. He is the highest paid coach in the PAC because he signed an extension this year. Hard to see why he would come here.

Sometimes a change of scenery is what you need. Maybe home isn't feeling as much like home anymore. Maybe he is frustrated with something there and is looking for a fresh start. Maybe he wants to coach in front of 100,000+ fans every Saturday. I don't know. But, if there is interest, you make the call and you make the offer. You simply don't miss the opportunity if it exists.

If I was Currie, charlie, Haslam, Peyton, I'd offer Petersen 7 year at 8per. If for some crazy reason he said no thanks, I'd offer him 10per at 7 and there is no way he's turning that down. No ****ing way.

No coach not named Nick Saban is worth 10 million a year.

They put his at 9 to make him stay for a while..... It also has to be paid in 45 days..... It is one of the largest buyouts anyone has....... Buyout if they want to leave.

ISU made sure to put it had to be paid in 45 days for a reason.........they are not just going to let their coach go right now.

He has done well this year and may be up for an extension if so I would assume he would get that changed, but for now I doubt ISU would negotiate much.
