Chris Petersen thread (merged)

Chris Peterson (with an "o") was a scientologist who died several years ago. Chris Petersen (football coach) is a Catholic. And AllAmericanPyro is an idiot.

5 years ago all we heard is how he wouldn’t come here because of his son and how his cult wouldn’t work in Knoxville... Calling someone an idiot for this is childish. If he’s not a member of a cult than bring him on. Good luck in life try not to pull the trigger so fast next time

It would have taken you 15 seconds on Google to find out he wasn't in a cult. Try not to be so quick on the trigger next time.

Definitely a big time hire if they could get him here. I like Gruden, Peterson, Harbaugh, and Patterson in that order. If rolling the dice, I like Frost. Not much out there that is an exciting hire.

Couldn’t agree more if I’d have written this post myself.

I would put it in that order too, though all 3 after Gruden are really close imo. so would not be disappointed with any of those.

Petersen would be the best hire Tennessee could make. He can develop players so recruiting would not be so paramount. I would be curious to see what Petersen could do with a few solid recruiting classes. He has son well with 3 Star recruits. Imagine a few top ten classes with his player development. I hope he is the guy.

I don't think Petersen or Patterson will be in play for UT, unfortunately, the Vols just can't seem to get their man, can they?:banghead2:

I'll say this. I don't feel good about getting Peterson but if he's even slightly interested the AD better do everything in his power to lure him to Knoxville.

He's the only guy I'd take over Gruden, who I also feel is a long shot.

I really hope that if it's Petersen, Patterson or Gruden that they don't announce it Sunday morning while I'm in church.

People would think the Holy Spirit just absolutely took control of me when I uncontrollably yell out "THANK YOU LORD JESUS!"

However....if it happened before the offering, I'd put an extra $5 in just to say thanks. ;)

You really think we are gonna hire Petersen? Based on what? Just curious.

Just been trying to put prices together.

Tennessee is going to hire someone. No matter what anyone says the lowest they go is someone like Norvell...... Which may not be the end of the world. However Currie came in knowing what has happened the past 9 years or so. Also since the GA game firing Butch had to at least been on his mind......and that is a long time to be thinking things over.

Currie is in his first year of a great AD job....... He knows what is at stake. Currie stated in the presser he was hiring NO ONE with any character issues. So that rules out a lot of names. If it were Miles, Chip...... Or even Gruden........why would there be a need to wait? Guys like Campbell and Norvell would not be even in the thoughts unless you have already went down to that........and nothing, anywhere says "all the big names passed on Tennessee"......... This is not 08-12.

With FL, A&M and maybe others looking Currie knows the drill......no matter what people think he is the AD for a reason. Heck no way he see's UCLA or FL hire Chip and Tennessee hire Bobo. Now with so many openings this year some big coaches will have the best chance ever to land a huge job with a HUGE payday.

I know this is only a rumor but everyone has to at least think Tennessee has reached out to Petersen's people......and if the rumor is true....... His people reached out to Tennessee. Yes it is still a rumor but in one way or the other both know the interest level.

Peterson has been vocal on two occasions about the lack of media exposure on the west coast and at Washington. Petersen also knows how hard it is to get somewhere at Washington with a loss and almost forget it with 2; however that is not the case with Tennessee or the SEC.

So if Chip is out..... If Frost is off to Neb, and the lower guys are prob behind Mullen. That leaves Patterson or Petersen. Patterson has been dissed before by Tennessee and while he could come he hasn't even spoken a word about anything.

No news here just an opinion. The new coach will be Petersen, Patterson or Mullen. I think Currie and the boosters want a home run type of hire especially since there will be more new coaches in the SEC......and since they are paying 8 mill..... For nothing now. I also think they feel Petersen/Patterson would be that type of hire...... And Mullen could be a decent back up plan.

Just based on the feeling I get about what Tennessee is wanting and that Petersen may want something else........ I'm saying Petersen.

We have been talking about how amazing this hire would be, but do we have any credible information about this actually happening?

I know LWS posted "Petersen" in the "who do you think the new coach will be" thread, but what other sources are saying this is even a remote possibility?

I have loved watching Petersen's teams ever since Boise. I have thought he was the most underrated coach in the country.

IF we could land him, my goodness. I mean, to see a Petersen - Saban head to head every single year until Saban retired??

That is a gift from the football gods, my friends. We could only be so lucky to see two of the best coaches square off each year.

They had the chance to get Patterson.....but thought they had their man.......after the Doofy mess not many wanted to come......but that has been a while, Tennessee has been winning, been winning bowls, and has way.......WAY more talent......especially depth than they did back then.

Also there are a lot of big jobs going to be open......great chance for a change and an even bigger pay day than normal.

Anyone can have their opinion but I certainly believe they are at least in play......I also think both and Mullen have the best chance.

No and I think a lot of people are putting too much emphasis on his rant about their kickoff times.

The only thing (outside of what you mentioned) is that Petersen's agent allegedly contacted us, and expressed interest, and Petersen has gone on record saying he is very unhappy with the Pac12's media exposure (because most games start so late and not many people watch, which means his teams don't get the votes they should).

So, people are thinking if all of that is true, then at least his name is in the hat.

My thinking...I'm a little hesitant. Chris's dad loves Washington and has always been a Huskies fan. Chris has no experience with the SEC.

However....he IS a huge competitor. And in my opinion...if you're a competitor...then the SEC is where you wanna be.

And if you wanna play the best....and the best is Alabama....there's one school where you can go to and every single year you will play Alabama, AND be in a division that you can completely own.

Tennessee would be a great fit for Petersen. But that's all of the info we have seen. He's unhappy, rumor is, reached out to us to gauge interest.

Have we had ANY credible infornation about ANYONE since this search has began? I am not trying to be an azz or anything just saying it seems like we really havent heard anything concrete since Butch was fired.

I will say this, If the rumor is true that Currie has offered Gruden 10 million a year, then he bettef dang well offer Petersen and Patterson at least 7-9 million a year. I really dont think there is any REAL info about any potential UT HC. I believe Currie is keeping everything tight lipped. Now that could be a bad thing, but my gut tells me its a good thing.

If we dont get Petersen, then I hope we never hear the reason why. If we were to end up with Mullen or Norvell and we were to later learn that Petersen was never offered, then that will leave a really sour taste in my mouth.

If your not Pentecostal come Sunday people may think you have been seriously touched.......and if you are.......you will suddenly cause a praise riot.
