Chris Petersen thread (merged)

I honestly hate this thread, because I know the UT admin won’t do the obvious thing and throw big money at a coach like Petersen...

I know, me too. But we can only dream. He is a program changer, even for a school like ours with such a storied tradition. I hope our administration at least makes an attempt.

Now I'm just confused. I'm torn. I want Gruden, but then I want Petersen...But I'll be really happy with either.

I really think Petersen is our ceiling. Hopefully our AD isn’t that incompetent and has at least tried to make contact with him.

I know some people have mentioned we have a Plan A and Plan B, I wonder if Petersen is Plan B at this moment. I know I'd be happy with Petersen, but there's been so much love for Gruden it might be where the AD is currently focused. Now I would not be upset if Gruden was a huge smokescreen to get Petersen. I'll just be pissed if we end up with some mid major, up and comer coach. We have done tried to find our diamond in the rough and failed. We need somebody who can fix this program and get us to winning at a high level.

I would be pretty upset if Gruden was plan A over an experienced championship caliber football coach.

I understand, but it's not Petersen's name the fanbase is pleading to be the next coach. But it would be pretty impressive to see the UTAD use Gruden as a smokescreen to hire Petersen.

I'm seeing reports and rumors that Petersen may be a candidate. If true this makes me very happy. As he has been my number 1 choice. He's a heck of a coach. He's not happy and Washington. I do believe he would be interested in leaving.

So if it's true and he's interested. He's the type you don't take no for an answer offer him 6,7,8+ mill a year and give him what he needs to come here. He's a proven winner. He puts players in the pros.

I really hope he's the guy. Do I believe it not until I see it. With the way UT has done things but if they want to fix it and start to win and want money coming in droves this is how you do it.

Per his 2015 contract he would owe 2.5 million.....being in the second or third year..... Year 4 he would owe 1.5 mill.

Petersen got an extension this year; however his contract does not require him to pay a sum of years left.

Petersen would still owe either 2.5 being in year 3 or the sum of his year 1 base salary (if considered year 1 because of the extension).

The 30 mil is only if Washington let him go without cause.

Dabo has the largest buyout in college football history.......it is 40 million; however if he wanted to leave it would only cost that years base salary or for this year around 6 mil.
And now you know why no one will probably touch Campbell this year. His buyout is 9 million.

Not being argumentative, but what have you seen that makes you think he is a legit candidate? I am curious because Petersen is one of my top choices as well.

I heard on the radio he may have some interest and may have been contacted. If so he definitely moves to number 1 on the coaching list. Lets hope he is tired of the West Coast and lack of publicity.

I so wish this would happen.

Two things to add here.

1) Petersens dad has been a lifelong Washington fan, and lives in California. Petersen has not coached in the east since he worked on staff at Pittsburgh.

2) What if....what everyone is saying about Gruden is actually about Petersen? What if it's Petersen who the MOU has been signed and everything is "done" and just waiting for the end of the season??? What if the reason that Currie can take off to the Bahamas is because he has Pete already in the bag and the contract has already been agreed upon?

Just a thought.

I think a vocal minority wants Gruden. I think most of the fans would love to have a proven winner coaching on Saturdays. Not to say that Gruden isn't a winner, but Peterson has won on the college level.

Petersen is a better coach than Gruden. There, I said it. He knows how to build and maintain a program. And can flat out coach.

Gruden would being an instant energy, but I do not know if he can sustain it. Petersen can sustain what he brings.

I would take either one, but I see Petersen as more of a long term solution.
