Chris Petersen thread (merged)

Apparently Hyams has made a point of quashing all Petersen talk this morning on the radio. Is it me or does it seem like he has been taking joy in knocking down hopes for any candidate the the fans would actually celebrate?

If he’s doing it because he’s been told by the Haslams that it’s not Petersen, then I want him to quash it.

I don’t want to know anything about Jeff Brohm

Ignorance is bliss. Brohm would and will be a very good coach, but I would worry about recruiting / name recognition if he went to a big school (ie UT) too soon. Needs another year or two at Purdue... just like Campbell at ISU.

Butch Jones really wanted to coach in the SEC....was he worth having as we sit here in the 4-win mess we’re currently in?

Butch wasn't a P5 coach though; he was a lower tier coach trying to climb the ladder. HCs that are enjoying success at P5 schools rarely jump to another P5 conference, particularly the SEC. Beliema would be a rare example of that. Or even on occasion doing the reverse, jumping down to a lower tier SEC school, such as Bill Curry going from Bama to UK.

Washington plays at 8 pm tonight, with the time difference from Seattle to Knoxville. That would make it tough to announce on Sunday. It is doable, but he would be a walking zombie probably.

Brohm would be a hotter name after another year or two; agreed. The problem is that we need a coach now, not a year or two from now. Brohm should not be at the top of our wish list, but if you’re not getting an A-lister like Petersen and if you’re not hiring a proven SEC coach like Mullen, then for me, the next guys are Frost, Campbell, and Brohm. Frost probably goes to Fla or Neb.

Sounds fishy to me Larry. I don't understand having dozens of people plan their entire Sunday just on an off chance they decide to make an announcement. It has to be done or dang close to done. Why would you tell them to stand by if you are merely in preliminary talks with a coach?

they were all told to standby for Butch firing around Kentucky and South Carolina games. then it didn't happen. This would not be first time, this year even

He is trying to get something done and might. but might not also

Have you heard anything on Frost? I would much rather have Petersen but in conversation with someone that speaks directly to Currie that Frost was his #1 and that he "has his guy". I am starting to think Currie is either a master at misinformation or in over his head lol.

I would rather have Petersen than anyone else discussed but no one I know seem to think its probable at all. With that said I think you are way more connected than I and if you give it better than a 50-50 chance then I am hopeful!

All the Petersen smoke came from nowhere it seems and has not made its way to the media yet. If thats how Currie operates and lands Peterson then :dance2:

info indicates Currie does like Frost a lot and have heard they have talked. Info also says Frost prefers Nebraska or Florida over Tennessee

no clue. honestly, don't know that answer.

I believe Gruden was # 1 for everyone if he wanted to do it but that is a guess..

Yeah I’m not opposed to Gruden. And honestly it’s scary he hasn’t been on a sideline in 8 years.

I just don’t see how the hell that it makes sense on his part!

It was an interesting speculation that Gruden and Currie might have been in Seattle giving the full court press to Petersen. (or Leach?🤪)

Brohm has done nothing to warrant a look from us. Maybe in another 2-3 years if he has much more success.

I agree.
The problem is that we need a coach right now, not 2-3 years from now.
Brohm should probably be slotted below Mullen and Campbell.
But, I believe people here would be pleasantly surprised by Brohm.
And, I like Brohm’s offense a lot more than Frost’s. Frost would be in the shotgun on the 1 just like Butch. Frost’s teams can’t even take a knee without using the shotgun.

here is how crazy things are:

30 minutes ago had a former Vol tell me it was Mullen.

I checked with a couple sources and JC and Mullen still haven't met according to them..

the next 48 hours will be very wild, bank on it

kinda disappointed in this news. Indicates the search really only just began. My hope has been JC is not as inept as that.

nope. been going for a while with lots talked with.. sorting through who he likes and who he wants to close with.. Mullen waiting might mean focus is on someone else at the moment. someone more desirable.
