Chris Low Says It Will Be “Difficult” For Pruitt To Stay As HC

What a disaster! It seems like a disgraced coach with a checkered past looking for a second chance would be the only type of coach that would voluntarily join this $#!] show. You can forget about Campbell, Fickell, or Chadwell.

It baffles me that a lot of you keep mentioning Fickell and Campbell. It would be great to get them. But, do you actually think UT is going to pony up to pay 20-24 million BUY OUT on top of salary??? Chadwell is a TN guy. I think he would appreciate the traditions at UT and has an extremely low buy out. I would be ok to give him a 4 year dear where UT gets 10 million should he leave early and he only gets 33% of his remaining salary approximately 3 million a year for leaving early. Isn't he only making about $375,000 a year with a very low buy out? Start him off at 2.5 million and increase his pay a half million a year the final three years of his INITIAL CONTRACT. Supposedly, Cristobal only made 2.7 million this year, yeah ONLY. LOL

That's my fear.

Look at Auburn and South Carolina. SC's coaching search was a disaster. Auburn had to settle on like their 8th or 9th choice; a guy who doesn't look like an upgrade from Malzahn.

Just imagine if Dan Mullen leaves for the NFL and we have to compete with Florida for a coaching hire again, as well.

It's not a great time to have to hire a coach. And our dysfunctional situation does not look like the best environment to walk into.

People on VN think it's all about money, but it's not. Coaches want to go where they can win. A dysfunctional house does not look like a place where you can win.
Yeah, and if we're looking at significant sanctions the job becomes even harder.

I have to disagree about Chadwell having a checkered past. NCAA sanctions against Char. So but nothing was tied to Chadwell in any serious or concerning way in my mind. He had a crap Compliance administrator who misdirected the athletes and of course they cited failure to monitor the program in their wording. So I have no concerns about hiring Chadwell and I for one wouldn't object to going with him.

I really don’t have a dog in the race. But did you have a link for what you just posted ^^^. I’m not saying you’re wrong. Just interested in another side of the story/

If Pruitt is to be fired, I’d like it to be mid season. It would be interesting to see if he would honor his commitment to his Tennessee players like he did his Alabama players

LOL, Pruitt didn't get fired from Bama. If so, he wouldn't have stayed to call the D. Please get your head out of the sand before typing!

Now that Clow has all but confirmed Pruitt is out. Let's put aside the crazy ideas we know are not happening.

Freeze, Campbell, Fickell, Meyer, Stoops are not coming here. We don't want Fickell anyways. The rest would be a massive upgrade but let's focus on the short list of realistic football coaches.

Herman - clearly the best option

No need to waste time on anyone else. Just stop here.

Played with multiple ineligible players. Thats bad. Both Freeze and Chadwell have been corrupt at their core. There are as talented HC candidates without the baggage out there we should try for first if Pruitt is fired. If we strike out then go after Freeze and Chadwell.

That’s a good list. There is zero reason to end up with a Dooley level coach.

I agree about Herman, but not the idea that we "don't want Fickell". He's by far the most accomplished G5 coach. Fickell would be an A-list hire IMO. He'd be the coach of Ohio State right now if he hadn't taken the Cincy job 1 year before Meyer left. Plus, he came within a hair of beating Georgia, with a fraction of the talent.

Fickell wants the Ohio State job, but it's not coming open any time soon. So he can either stay at Cincy forever, or take another Tier 1 job. I think he eventually takes another job.

We should also note something very interesting; most of the Saban-tree head coaches have been flops. The Urban Meyer tree, however, has been much more successful: Dan Mullen, Ryan Day, Luke Fickell. Even some of the coaches that got fired did alright (e.g. Doc Holliday at Marshall).

Herman is probably where I'd go first if we are sticking with non-NCAA issue guys. Urban Meyer tree. Offense guy. Faced Texas pressure. Actually had a decent record and was building there.
Offer 7-8 million to someone like Gus Malzahn,Tom Allen,Josh Heupel,Luke Fickell or Tony Elliott.

Zero chance of that if they fire Pruitt over minor recruiting violations.

No, if we fire Pruitt, we likely hire someone like Jamey Chadwell, who did well this year at Coastal Carolina, but who's still a huge gamble, up-and-comer type.
...
Dooley was 17-20 when we hired him.
Butch was 50-27 and had 1st place ties for conference titles (Not a bew up and comer)
Chadwell is 79-52 with one conference championship and another one vacated.
AP Coach of the Year 2020 (NOT an new up and comer)
been Head Coaching since 2009....

I had no idea Pruitt didn’t get fired from Alabama...
Plenty of fired coaches finish out the season with their teams. Zook at Florida and Phillips at Kentucky come to mind. Even some guy named Fulmer at Tennessee finished out the season after getting fired. Coordinators on the other hand (Cutcliffe at Tennessee for instance) usually leave to focus on their HC positions once hired. As you seem to be aware, Pruitt did not...
On a side note, you need to look up what the term “get your head out of the sand” means to use in the correct context in the future
