Chris Low just said there is a chance...

I've been critical of the Grudenites too over the last week. The man is barely over .500 in his NFL coaching career. That said, however, I am intrigued about his recruiting possibilities. He is the host of freakin' MNF, for God's sake. I almost think that would go farther than his Super Bowl with recruits. IDK.

So Chris Lowe said today that he's heard talks from people close to Gruden that he's "very interested" in coming to Tennessee. He then went on to say he's afraid to say that because of the stir that it will cause, but he said that Gruden has the itch to coach again real bad. He said that his knowledge is in the NFL, but he's always been impressed with our facilities. He has told people close to him that he could see himself here. Just thought I'd pass that along.

I don't see it happening. It has been rumored (falsely) too many times before.

:loco: It's rare for an NFL HC coach to move to the College ranks to begin with. So, you're suggestion is ridiculous to begin with. Carroll did a fine job, and before you say "well anyone can recruit to SoCal"...really? How did that work out for Robinson and all his predecessors? USC only started dominating AFTER Carroll came from the NFL. Bama only started dominating AFTER Saban came from the NFL (yes he was successful as a college coach before...but his experience in the NFL helps sell recruits Big time).

Kiffin sold the NFL experience to recruits he was after, while here and was very successful at it...even though the program was in the doldrums. In fact, it's a point he continues to sell at his new destination, USC.

As for Gruden's "unemployment"...uh, he makes about as much on TV as he would coaching. THAT is why he hasn't returned. He's been asked many times over, genius. Show what kind of bubble you've been living in, down there in your sister's bedroom.

Pete Carroll has a .500 record in the NFL (mediocre)
He is 83-19 in college (much better than average)
Charlie Weis was somewhat successful as an assistant in the NFL and sucks as a college coach. Completely different philosophies needed between the two. A college coach needs to be a mentor/teacher and a disciplinarian. An NFL coach is basically a co-worker that makes about 1/10 what the players do. As bad as Shula sucked as a head coach in college, he is actually a pretty good position coach in the NFL. Saban and Spurrier both struggled in the pros because they tried to coach with the same style as they do in college. Jimmy Johnson is the only coach I can think of that reached the top level coaching in both college and the pros.
