Chris Kyle: American hero or

OK, let me rephrase. Collateral damage. With GPS and precision guided weapons we only killed 14, not 1400. Either way, I'm good with it.

Alright, we're killing 10 innocent bread-winners. Who knows, perhaps 7 of them favored the US.

And by that we force another uneducated young male into a life of violence as his anger is warped to serving an extremist group.

Well done. We killed 2 and probably made 5. Do it enough times and that's practically current-day ISIS.

That's a winning strategy. Hearts and minds, people.

So where's the ratio where you are no longer "good with it"? Of all the people that were killed in this hypothetical bombing only 14% were intended targets. That's a pretty God awful ratio. How low does that percentage need to be before you start to straddle the fence?

I feel like that type of attitude/mindset can only be achieved when one decides that the lives of people different than him are inherently worthless or worth much less than his own and his 'people's'. That's the only way I can imagine someone nonchalantly accepting if not celebrating the death of innocents and the further disrespect of labeling them as militants.

Converted?

No, I just don't see how killing innocents willfully is a good way to wage a military action where your goal is winning the "hearts and minds" of the local populace.

We were there as freedom granters... not invading subjectors... remember?

Or are we just outright admitting we were invading subjectors. Because that changes the tone of the engagement and moral backbone that should be guiding this nation. That would be a direct antithesis to what this nation was founded against.

I never served in Iraq, but this is the major problem in Afghanistan. I actually served with the Psyop crews and winning them over while the other guys are killing them mercilessly definitely wasn't doing us any favors. To whoever called it effective, you need a long hard look in the mirror and to take a crash course in Army values.

What people don't seem to understand is that if both sides behave in ruthless ways, it's going to make it harder for the other side to back down.

I think if we fight fair (my suggestion is Marque and Reprisal, like the constitution suggests) then we are less likely to create more/new terrorists. Killing innocents is hurting our popularity among fence-sitters.

fyp. it's far more widespread than you hinted at.

Yeah, it's working so well.... Sometimes you just have to make the hard decisions. Or maybe you'd prefer to just keep letting them kill other innocent people?

It's better than carpet bombing.

Ironically enough, women tend to make very good snipers due to having a higher (on average compared to men) patience and ability to empathize with their target to better understand and wait for the perfect shot.

did you cross train, with the Israelis' or another foreign service

In my 9 years of service, I never met a female sniper

Not needed but thanks. Next time I go to work, I'll send you a picture of the NY skyline, and I'll point out where the WTC used to be. I see it every... single... time... I go to work. Sorry, but I'll never forget.

That's great. So touching. Man, just pulled at the heart strings. I'll remember you looking at the NY skyline next time I'm remembering all the innocent Afghans I met while I was in Afghanistan. People who didn't even know the US was bombed by Afghan terrorists. More people thought we were Russia than Americans. But, hey, don't ever forget.

I'm sure this will make a good country song, but it doesn't address anything about our contentions with your feelings on killing innocents. Are you suggesting that since they killed a bunch of American innocents, you don't care if we kill their innocents? Where does it end? When does it stop? For every innocent we kill we've probably inspired two Muslims to radicalize. You can't destroy an ideal. Is your personal desire for revenge worth it in the face of a doomed from the start strategy?
