Chris Dorch on Tyndall filling this recruiting class...

What I see that is positive about this, is that Martin's incoming players had a lot of developing to be done in order to contribute. Whereas, Donnie Basketball is likely to get some transfers and JUCOs, who could contribute right away and then graduate, thus allowing Tyndall to fill the roster with his guys more quickly than if they were to be here 4 years before Tyndall could flip the roster and make it his own squad.

That's solid praise, imo. It seemed like an uphill battle, trying to rebuild so much of the roster so late in the game. But I'm starting to have a little more confidence that Tyndall may actually be able to bring in some guys who can complete.

The main reason I mentioned that is to get the Martin guys and the CT guys to bond. There are going to be players that don't like the way DT handles some things, talks or whatever from what they are used to and signed up for. They'll need to be on board mentally and physically.

I don't think this will necessarily be a problem, J Rich seems to be somewhat of a CDT advocate thus far based on his tweets, and D Thompson knew Tyndall beforehand and had a previous relationship with him through his HS coach at Blackman, Barry Wortman (who served as an assistant under DT at Morehead).

These are presumably going to be your 2 "big leaders" on this year team as they were the only 2 who played significant minutes last year. I think as long Tyndall keeps these 2 on board, The rest will fall in line

Like I said last night after the interview, I'm intrigued. I mentioned in October/November that if I was a coach or recruiting coordinator I would hold at least 1-3 scholarships for Spring.

Between graduate transfers, the incredibly common immediate waivers regular transfers get, the HS recruits receiving releases from LOIs for various reasons, guys simply being late bloomers, and the increase in international prospects now...there's some very good players available in spring.

Obviously Tyndall isn't gonna land all these guys but: Devonta Pollard former 5* JUCO, Elijah Stewart released from LOI available 4* top 75, Devonte Graham released from LOI 4* top 50, Jared Terrell released from LOI available 4* top 75, Tariq Owens released from LOI 4* top 100.

If Tyndall landed all 5 and JUCO Octavius Ellis you're talking about a top 10-15 ranked class, simply off guys that came available in the Spring signing period.

He has set the bar pretty high in terms of expectations IMO at least, I'm very interested to see who he's able to land. If he can pull a top 25 class with these circumstances I think there's no questioning his recruiting ability.

All of those 4 and 5* guys would only get us to the top 10-15?

Are we pursuing those guys for you to day he set bar high or you just picked names and setting bar high for him?

Bring in a JUCO like Maymon and another like Bobby Maze and we will hit the ground running from day # 1.

I think Maymon was a Marquette transfer but Bobby came from JUCO and worked out good....My philosophy I is you can built a year on JUCOS but not a program....

Wouldn't it depend on what year the Juco was in?

If our tempo and pace is slow, how are we not in good enough shape to play it?

I'm sure we're in good enough shape for his offense , the press defense is probably what he is talking about .
If we do press off every made basket we will have to be in tremendous shape

Highly thought of by Tony Basilio, too! "Dave Hart has gone and done it again! You have to love it! The guy is living right! Dave Hart is rolling!!! He tries his best to screw it up but he keeps right on winning with these hires!!!!Hart wanted to keep Derek Dooley around in his final year when 99.99% of those involved in the situation had already moved on. From that nearly fatal mistake of lobbying to rehab Dooley, Hart led a search that ended up on Charlie Strong by way of Mike Gundy. Both guys would've been horrible fits here. They're already grumbling about how prickly Strong is toward boosters. His eventual hire? Butch Jones!!! A PR giant and more importantly a recruiting machine!!! Couldn't have designed a better coach for UT at this point in time!! And Donnie Tyndall? What a great fit over Michael White! Hart wanted White but he got the right guy! Michael White is private-school, silver-spooned arrogant. Guys like that don't mix in these parts. Donnie Basketball Tyndall.... He literally couldn't have made a better hire!!!Tyndall wasn't anointed by anyone in the coaching profession like Michael White. There were no Coach's K's calling on Tyndall's behalf. Tyndall played his college ball at Morehead State and has been in the SEC before. I'll bet his staff reflects just that! He runs and presses. This style of play appeals to folks here. He lets guys shoot it on the move. He's going to remind folks of Gregg Marshall in his approach. This guy is a man. He's had very little help or push along the way. UT fans will identify with him right from the jump. While Michael White was going to look at getting out for Ole Miss down the line, Donnie Basketball has already gotten above his alma mater in his profession. Tennessee will be the BEST JOB Donnie Tyndall has ever had! Love this in any hire!"

and generally speaking, the players are moving at a brisk pace while pressing and if they get the ball will move at a faster pace to the rim

Won't pull a heavens gate, but would be surprised considering Tyndall couldn't manage even a single four star recruit in his entire career so far.

Come on now , Donnie Knoxville hasn't had the draw before that he has now . There's a big difference between trying to get players to come to UT than USM

I saw that DT recruited Armani as well and his HS coach felt that Armani would thrive in the uptempo style. This was a radio interview several days ago. Said Armani wanted to commit to USM, but it was UT pursuing and went with his highest offer.

I'd take the pg he had last year on any team UT has had since CJ Watson. I think many still assume a lesser school or conference means lesser player. There are more good basketball players and more guys 6'4-6'7 that can play this year than last. And next year there will be more, and so on. Hype, system, playing other sports, homebody...there are many reasons why a kid may end up somewhere. To assume they aren't the player or couldn't have the players that a UT team has on the floor is simply misinformed. Playing USM this year would've been a dog fight. Playing them last year would've resulted in us getting whipped.

How many 4 stars did Butch Jones have before he came to Tennessee? Bruce Pearl? Cuonzo Martin? I think you get it, or maybe you're just a troll.

I posted something similar in another thread. We have an existing team of CCM's guys and we are recruiting a whole new team wih CDT's guys. We really have our work cut out for us in the chemistry department. We may even have more casualties if guys feel they are being recruited over. CDT preaches "family" with his teams. It will be interesting to see how he pulls them together in a short amount of time.

I realize that. But a little investigating shows that in the last 9 years Tyndall has managed to recruit 3 2star players and actually has never recruited a 3 star player in his entire life. But he's a master recruiter, who lost an entire recruiting class, at Tennessee. Not Morehead State or Southern Miss.
