We are not going to recruit well in Memphis and shouldn't even make it a priority. It is 6 hours from Knoxville to Memphis! No kid that grew up watching Memphis basketball is going to leave to go to school 6 hours away.

In the last 20 years I have cherished seeing all of these 4 and 5 star Memphis kids in Blue and Gray.

Key Phrase - In the Past.

Cal, although I despise him, made it relevant again to play in Memphis. Kids knew he could get them noticed by the NBA, by any cost.

Having an NBA team in the city certainly doesn't hurt either.

Do realize that the only Memphis kids that were "stars" on Cal's teams were Antonio Burks and Jeremy Hunt? Cal made it a point to recruit nationally and only take a couple of Memphis kids (usually role players). He alienated the HS coaches here. If Pearl didn't get the stars during Cal's tenure, he can pretty much hang it up with Pastner. He has made it priority #1 to lock up the Memphis kids that are nationally regarded. Look for Tarik Black to commit in next couple of weeks.
