yea..the days of CCP is nuthing but copy cats, are far behind us, and getting worse by the day.
The thing that bothers me most is PPP value..they get a lot more for the buck. An AB destroyer is like 2,5B and even SK can build an equivalent for 1/3..Apply that to any industrial metric, and we are toast.

Yea, but the old question comes into play - how good is it?

With the shipbuilding - Quantity is its own Quality. Their production rate is a problem.

I’m skeptical of how good their Hypersonics & 6th Gen actually are

Best not underestimate it..they probably have what we have at minimum as they stole it. This aint USSR. Those 6 gens look prototype but they have advanced quickly.

USPS Temporarily Suspends Accepting Packages From China and Hong Kong​


The United States Postal Service announced Tuesday night that it is temporarily suspending accepting packages sent from China and Hong Kong until further notice.

The suspension is effective immediately, the USPS said. Letters and flats are not included in the suspension, it said.

The postal service did not provide a reason for the suspension or say how long it expects it to last.

Iwonder if the F-47 is named for Trump. A lot of people have speculated it is, but the number sequence is based on x planes as well as production, so it wouldnt be F-36..I believe there is the X-44 Mantra and X-45 UCAS, butnot familiar with X-46, so who knows.

eh it would take another one of their big government owned corporations going down for them to disintegrate.

I could see them shuffling off some people in the admin, but I doubt its close to falling.

This guys show (Uncommon Knowledge)is always good...Hoover Institute/Hillsdale gang are always having good pods from Victor Hanson, Thomas Sowell, etc. Some of the best minds of² our age IMO. Unsurprisingly, all the aforementioned as well as the host are esteemed historians and professors....extremely smart and without the Leftist indoctrination. I enjoy the way they often look for facts and truth, allowing the listener to draw their own conclusions.

Dikötter is the same guy that has attempted to argue (poorly) that China's prohibition of opium did more damage than the widespread addition to opium by the populace did; he's laughed at by other Sino historians.

Yeah thats noted about 10 times in the comments immediately below the video. Apparently its the only thing anyone knows about him...or the 1st google result. Apparently he made that comment in a book he wrote in 2004. Wonder what kind of statements you or I would have made in a book IF we wrote one (of several) and it was published 20 plus years ago? Regardless, this is the 1st I have ever heard of him. He clearly has a lot of knowledge regarding China though, he speaks at length for over an hour and has countless statistics etc. I can't attest to the guest being an expert though.

The show however, is brilliant. In regards to your snark about Leftist indoctrination, if you dont think current academia indoctrinates people with Leftist notions then thats a "you problem" . Most Universities and especially the ones formerly considered the best like the Ivy League schools are made up primarily of professors whose political views are somewhere Left of Lenin. They turn out these brilliant baristas and politicians hellbent on making this country another failed Socialist state. The Hoover Institution in contrast is made up of folks like Sowell and Hanson, who managed to graduate from Harvard and Stanford, become tenured professors there as well...but not be deluded into believing the terrible failed ideas the Left keeps recycling over and over in this country.

Yeah it is snark, because when you start throwing out lack of "leftist indoctrination" as a reason why a person should accept the information provided, you're essentially saying "this reinforces my confirmation bias, so I accept the information as accurate without any further study".

Which is exactly what you did. You decided that what Dikötter said is accurate, and factual without ever following up on the content, or how his work has been received by other historians because you wanted to believe him.

Actually...and this is the last I intend to discuss this with you as you apparently like to argue... here's a couple facts. Not my opinion, objective facts:

1. My post began with the words @Louder. It was directly specifically to him. He started this thread. I know him, have texted and emailed with him etc because we work in the same field. It had absolutely nothing to do with you...YOU inserted yourself into a post directed specifically to someone else and added your snarky BS.

2. I could not possibly give a damn less what you think about my post which was addressed to and intended for someone else.

3. My bias is none of your business, I never asked you to read my post which wasnt directed to you...to watch the video which clearly you have not...nor offer your opinion on my post, the video, or anything else in life whatsoever. Put me on ignore...mind your own business...or what the hell ever you do in your spare time. Heres a little hint though: when a post begins with @anyone on this site, rest assured if beardedjackass isnt after that little @ symbol then likely nobody gives a damn what you think about it.

No no no, they should have kept buying that opium and asked for more. The ingrates just didn't want to enrich the British East India Company at the minor cost of their own health, wealth, crime rates, family structure and social cohesion.

I have been reading a study that say the opium problem wasn't nearly as bad as it was made out to be. as most of the sources that are used today are either from the british/western powers who were incredibly racist, or the opponents of the Qing dynasty who would also present a biased set of opinions. granted the study is funded by the PRC, but it makes sense on its own imo.

their argument comes down to a couple points.
1. racism/ obvious bias that inflated the numbers to make the Chinese/government look bad.
2. there was never a large scale study down at the time to say X number of people were actually using opium daily. so they point out everything was at best up to anecdotal evidence even if it wasn't biased.
3. the sheer number/amount. the study questions if the British COULD have provided enough opium to keep the Chinese as high as it was alluded to. even in the 1800s the Chinese were over 200 million people, and some of the claims were as high as 1/4 of the chinese male population was addicted. the amount of opium to keep 25 million addicted, and high enough to not be able to work is pretty dang extreme. so they question if it was even possible.
4. they have started testing some of the graves/bodies from the time and are finding less evidence than the assumptions would suggest. but they do note that the "half life" of opium in a dead body isn't fully understood, and there are going to be some selection bias as they are never going to be able to test EVERY body from the time period.

most of the study boils down to actually questioning the previous assumptions, rather than establishing a "new" truth. but figured it was worth mentioning. it doesn't question that there was a problem, but they dig deeper into how bad the "crisis" actually was.
