China says relations with Russia at 'best level in history'

Agree to an extent. I do think the problem is feeling we "have" to do something about the situation and exporting American style democracy to the rest of the world when sometimes they just don't want it.

Yeah, our form of Republic tends to work, but won't work for everyone. Take Japan as an example. We left the Emperor in "charge" even though he was generally powerless after WWII. It was still important as the Japanese chose the duties the office would carry out, provided the Shinto Doctrine forced that change. Regardless, it was a smart move to continue some traditions like that position and not shove our form of government down their throats.

Good point. Agreed.

Of course, if we are using history as our guide, the last time the Russians had "great" relations with someone was the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact.

:)

Love the commemorative cocktails the Pact spawned.

Well, that made my stomach turn a bit. Thanks, I was eating.

Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping made Russian pancakes with caviar, and the photos are incredible

Russians were the only foreigners in China during the cold war period/Mao period. They did big business , vacationed there, owned property. The restaurants in the beach front areas usually have menus in Russian and Chinese. There are Russian cuisine restaurants in every tourist area. Its a closer bond than with any other country. Neither are Communist in my opinion.

I know the tinfoil hatters won’t buy it but Trump’s treatment of Russia and China have pushed them into each other’s arms. Russia has energy China wants, China has cheap goods Russia wants. This little caviar date is a shot at Trump.

uhm, they were in bed long before Trump was ever president. China has always had an energy problem, Russia has always had a surplus. they have been building pipe lines since the early 2000s at least. heck for most of modern China their military has been Russian cast offs.

its not like there has been some big switch because of Trump.

I think China is looking for a hedge against Trump’s trade war tactics. And Russia wants to deal with someone who won’t freeze their assets or sanction them.

Wow, the comments in here. You people really don't realize the unipolar advantage that we have squandered is about to end. It was due to our own mismanagement and corruption.

Do you blame either country for moving closer together for the very reasons you just stated?

ok, except they have already been doing that. Russia can't buy a 1/10th that we can.
