Checkerboard game announced.

There's little doubt the crowd will be amongst the loudest Neyland has ever witnessed. I really believe we have a shot to pull the upset. Catching UGA early will work to our benefit. They are more talented, but they have a ton of production to replace. I believe our Defense is good enough to keep us in it for 4 quarters so you never know.

If we do pull it off expect some goalposts to be at the bottom of the TN River Sat night

Let me say that I honestly believe that the way you guys checker Neyland is among the coolest game day fan participation happenings in college sports. Not only does it show relentless spirit and look bada$$, it’s also quite impressive how precise you guys are with it.

Having said this, (and those of you familiar with me know that what I’m about to say isn’t in the slightest way meant in an arrogant way) I truly don’t think checkering Neyland for the UGA game was a smart move.

The reason I believe this is bc I think there are several things in this game that could benefit or maybe work in TN’s favor. You are playing a GA team with an inexperienced QB that will be starting in his first SEC game with an also inexperienced O-line playing together in their first SEC game. Oh yeah, and it’s going to be in Knoxville in front of 100,000+ screaming Vols. To say it will be loud and nerve racking for these individuals is a massive understatement. All of this is wonderful for TN and honestly makes me quite worried.

So why in the world would you give this GA team any added incentive to be locked in and play well together? Why would you want to give them even the slightest sense that they are being slighted or disrespected? Much less the entire stadium just screaming that we don’t respect you?

Now obviously that isn’t what checkering Neyland is really about or meant to do, but you’re in denial if you think that CKS isn’t going to use this in a very big way. This news had his wheels turning the second he heard it.

I’m still very concerned about this game as I’ve stated on other threads. My point is just, why would you do this when you have GA, or at least their offense, in such a potentially very tough situation?

I’m not saying it won’t work out for TN, I just don’t think it was the best of ideas for this particular game.

At one time, I believe they put shirts in the seats to make the checker board. Don't know if that's still what they do, but they do put out information where you can check where your seat is and find what color shirt to wear.

Idk maybe I view it differently but I don’t see this as extra incentive or anything like that. Smart will find a way to motivate his team, maybe it’s this or maybe it’s something else a media member or a player says. I don’t think the fan check board will matter to Georgia one way or the other honestly. Jmo

🤦
Checkering Neyland for a top SEC opponent is a sign of respect for that program. As the SEC likes to say, it just means more.

Yeah, after thinking on it longer, you’re probably right. Heck, most of the GA players will probably think it’s pretty cool and actually respect such a rival fans response. I mean it is y’all’s home so it’s not at all showing disrespect. And you’re right, Smart will have them as motivated as he can regardless.

I agree with you, a knee jerk reaction had me looking at it the wrong way for a minute.

I’m excited about the game though, and I do honestly think that it’s possible that the crowd could play a significant role in the game given the situation.

Crowd always plays a role in neyland. How much Georgia can adjust to that will be key. They have a history of big games in hostile environments though. I’m sure they will be ready. Just hope we can finally stomp y’all’s ass for once. 😂

It’s impossible for me to feel confident with any prediction for this game. Maybe the week leading up, I’ll think I have an idea. 😂

I honestly think this game will be the barometer for both of our teams. I’m guessing that so long as neither of our teams just shite the bed, (turnovers, terrible tackling, exc…) this might be a very good game. Who knows at this point for sure though? I can hardly wait though!!!
