What's the story with this kid? I haven't seen anything on VN, but seeing videos on tiktok that he's either homesick, not happy here, or wanting to transfer out. Anyone heard anything

Saw he’s homesick and they are trying to move a family member down here. Was on Boogie Bentley via Basilio (haters will come out). He’s not practicing consistently. Price tag was 3.5

I didn't realize there was a thread on this, or I would have posted this here. From the 12th practice thread:

If Chaz's experience at Tennessee plays out similar to what happened with Nico and Boo, it's on the head coach. Character evaluation is just as important as evaluating athleticism. We will never get where we want to be if we keep throwing money at players who do nothing but hold us back.

Personally, I felt like Chaz Coleman was overrated during portal season. Not that he doesn't have the potential to be a really good player, he certainly does, but seeing everyone treat him like a slam dunk, can't miss impact prospect when he only had 1 sack in 2025 was surprising to me. But that's what happens with former 5-star recruits. Everyone just assumes they're a future 1st round pick. Nobody will be surprised if he comes in and has 8 or 9 sacks this season, but we also shouldn't be surprised if he only has 2 or 3. JMO.

Hey Chaz- sometimes you gotta act like a man!!! I grew up in northern Jersey and drove 750 miles south to attend UT in September of 1975 and didn't know a soul there. Also, I didn't have football coaches coddling to me or amazing training facilities at my fingertips or sumptuous meals prepared for me (Sophies??) or a dorm as nice as The Ritz Carlton to live in (Hess sucked). You have landed in paradise young man so wake up and smell the roses cuz all you'd be smelling back in Ohio or PA right now is snow.

From what what I understand he isn’t a malcontent like Boo or Nico, hom sick and some mental health struggles. Also, if there were previous issues do you really think Knowles would have been anted him here?

I’m sure your life experiences are going to make all the difference here.

I went from SoCal to Florida for college. My parents told me you're not coming home until Christmas, so don't call crying about being homesick.

Great point on Knowles. He should know him very well and if I'm Heupel I would trust Knowles to make the decision on whether or not we should pursue him. Great point.

So typical for us. It’s never the 2nd string punter, it’s always a star or a position we are thin at.
I know right? Not hating on the kid, it happens (homesickness). But our biggest win and bidding war in the portal at a crucial position gets homesick???? It's so UT football.

If he leaves, we could've spent all that money elsewhere it's a double blow.

We could have spent money getting some beef at Defensive Tackle, and another edge rusher

I don’t know why people are sharing the possible mental health issues. I’ve been a defender of Basilio a lot but it was absolutely wrong for him to out that out there. Either it’s true and it’s not his business to put it out there, or it’s false and it’s reckless to throw it out in public. It’s wrong either way. I told him the same thing.

He can't transfer anyway this year, so he better lock in. Hard to argue about character evaluations given his defensive coordinator literally recruited him here.

We're doing all we can for him. As a player, this guy is elite. Could be a top 5-10 pick in the Draft.
Well if true then he's gonna have no control over where he moves in April 2027. Gotta lock in young man. Hell with all that cash fly in the fam every weekend.
