Chaz Coleman status?

Actually it’s not and very comparable to same age grouped college athletes- given the context of active duty young men and women 18-24 year olds ( bulk of enlisted age) being away from home for extended periods for the first times in their lives via basic training and then follow on tech training for months to years. Before you tell me I'm dumb because you don’t comprehend, I’ve worked in the military training realm for over 10 years and seen homesick/made the wrong choice bc this isn’t what I thought it was thing play out a bunch
Kids today travel more than our older generation ever did. Coleman has been on recruiting trips, camps, etc plus 1 year at Penn St. Going into military service is nothing like college athletics.

Calling a college athlete soft for missing being close to his family is what is weak.
Lol, how many hundreds of thousands of kids go off to college every year and work through it. This guy is getting paid a ton of money to be the Alpha Dog for an SEC defense and sounds like he is a complete Train Wreck...Knowles and the other PSU Coaches had to have vouched for this dude, was he total wuss in College Station?

Irrelevant. Some kids really love their family and are close to them. You are passing judgement on someone you don’t even know. Lame.

If you love your family and want to be near them, I understand, but then just stay near them and go to Ohio State or stay at Penn State instead.

I really don't understand how this has become an issue with the options he had.

I would bet it's likely he doesn't get it either. It's not like he said to himself, "I think I'll go to Knoxville and be miserable....."

He'll probably work through it but people here acting like it's somehow intentional or planned or whatever have got to be great parents. Just fabulous examples of patience and caring.

Because regardless of how absurd NIL is - people with Forrest Gumps level of reasoning ability believe they are one in the same

Fair or unfair, when you get paid 3.5 million dollars to come play a sport and you're not even practicing routinely for that sport for reason other than physically being unable to, you're going to catch flack.

I wish him nothing but the best in figuring out the best solution for whatever is troubling him, but he had the choice to make millions near his family or make millions away from his family and picked away from his family. You're going to be hard pressed to find much sympathy from the general public given that. Not some scenario where it was like "move to TEnnessee and make millions or stay near family and be poor".

Calling a kid a wuss in this situation is pathetic and just shows how low class you really are

Guess what, he's physically unable to practice. If he was grieving a recently deceased parent, would you insist he's fine?

Think like a parent for a second. Even if you have had a family member go off to a much more serious and much more demanding military commitment, can you say you've not worried about their mental health, their loneliness, their isolation from family, etc?

Certainly I want him to "snap out of it" and be successful at UT and his life but just step back and embrace the kid as your son for a minute...... You would probably hate what you're reading here about your kid.

He’s GETTING paid. He’s an adult and chose to come here. Are you making up excuses or do you have real info because I don’t think Brent Hubbs would put out what he said if that was the case.

Again, I've had family members in the service and I STILL worried about their mental health, their isolation from family, the effects on their psyche, etc DESPITE their commitment to serving and their country.

I knew they wanted to do the job but I also knew the deployment was hard, was not good for their family, etc. And yes, they were getting paid too.

I don't doubt Chaz Coleman WANTS to be at UT and for more than just money. This is his chosen stage to impress the next level..... the NFL.

You guys are either just posturing as hard asses or the worst examples of fans and parents I've ever seen.

Again, you don’t know the kid personally.

Everyone is just jumping to conclusions and automatically calling him soft without knowing the full story.

Don’t know how to explain it more clearly than that.

Enough already !!!!

If he is homesick and unhappy, it does not excuse missing practice. Especially given he is being paid to be here.
This is when you stop the automatic paycheck deposits. If you're not coming to work, you get docked.
He can be unhappy and go to practice at the same time. Then leave if you don't want to be here.
I'm sick of these fragile egos. We don't need another distraction like last season's team.
Coleman either needs to buy in 1000% or Heupel needs to send him home.
Take him to the train station. The long black train.

My sister died 5 days before 2 a days. I went to the funeral and burial. Was rough but I was at practice the morning it started. Being on the field helped but being mentally tough is something that was expected in our generation. Agree or not, it’s different now.

The problem with your comparisons here is he had the choice to play football much closer to his family and didn't do it. It's not an issue of "I don't understand how he could miss them" it's an issue of "I don't understand why he made this choice".

He's one of the highest paid players on this team and was given a boatload of money to give it his all and he's not doing so, for a reason that was entirely within his control/he had the ability to avoid. A family member dying would not be within his control, pretty absurd comparison.

He created a problem for himself for no reason and now the Vols are the ones being punished for it.

I'd bet he didn't think it would be a problem. It's crazy to think he wants to waste a year not playing as that would be quite suspect to the NFL. It's not a usual situation, I'll admit, but I don't think the vitriol I've seen on VN is warranted.

He may yet turn out to get this behind him and play well for the Vols.

All we can and should do is hope he sorts out what's bothering him. He can't transfer. He can't go elsewhere at this point without a huge NCAA issue not to mention academics issue. He's a Vol and a player having a hard time.

Is compassion just too much to ask these days from fans?

State College, PA. Not the home of Texas A&M.
