So because UF "backed" into the title game last year they are "subpar" National Champs?

Actually, prior to the national championship game I'd have said they were only so-so contenders. It was because they utterly crushed a team that many were touting as one of the best in awhile that the '06-'07 Gators have much to brag about.

I mean, think about it. Florida narrowly escaped defeat several times during last year's campaign. They beat UT by a single point and looked pedestrian doing it. They needed three blocked field goals against South Carolina. They got break after break after break. So when they got the nod to go to the big game against a team that had dominated everyone they played, the expectations were low.

Florida trounces tOSU, ergo the conclusioin was that damn that SEC must be tough.

Well, in retrospect, I think the most you can say about last year's Florida team is that they were pretty good. Not great, but good. And the most you can say about tOSU is that they might have been the most overrated major college football team of all time.

This year, the SEC has only one team that is in contention for the national championship and that is LSU. If they manage to eek out a series of victories and win the SECCG, then they stand a decent chance of playing someone like tOSU or even BC, both fo which are teams they ought to beat.

Question is, what would happen if LSU had to play ASU or Oregon? I'm not willing to say this year -- based on last year -- that the SEC team ought to be favored in such a match-up. As much as it pains me to say it, I think Florida's national championship last year, while earned, may not have the value we all thought it did at the time in terms of proving SEC superiority.

Rexvol - you start a pessimistic thread like this about about once and week and it has been going on for a year now...what exactly can you do about it?

Don't bash the people that like to look at the bright side of things. Why do you care so much about people taking the glass half full approach anyways? Don't say its because you are a true fan, that response is played out just like all of your pessimistic posts...
awesome

Oregon is a scary football team, got alot of speed....LSU would have to come up with a QB somewhere to beat them...Dont know about that one, good call LG...

Fla. was the best team last year. A Ohio st. fan told me they lost because of coaching. I laughed and asked him what impact the Fla. D had.

I think the stars aligned for Florida last year. We deserved it in that we managed one loss against a very tough schedule and then pasted a highly thought of tOSU team. But, in terms of proving anything about SEC supriority in the big picture, I'm not sure I can say that with as much confidence as I did the day after the game.

Now, that is in context of the disucssion of whether the SECE is "down" this year. And that's relative. I mean, the SECE may have some overall good teams this year, with a lot of parity within the division, but as I look around at the tops of other conferences, especially the PAC 10, I'm not so sure we are competitive with them.

And again I am speaking to this year.

Agreed. All good points. I was merely making the correlation between UF backing into a game last season and Rex trashing UT for backing into the SECE lead this year. It's good, no matter the circumstances.

moronic glass-half full approaches get you 5-6 season and routs at the hands of Cal, Bama, & UF. I guess you're happy with that, but I never will be.

I was not aware the glass half-full bunch suited up for the Volunteers.
