Changes Are Afoot (rumor)

I would assume to be a DC but ill find out.

unless he gets coordinator role, he will owe 2 years buyout.. I could see him moving for coordinator job if someone out there looking to hire a coordinator.. he would be a good candidate as much as I would hate to see him leave.

Also, one poster mentioned it earlier, but that it'd be interesting to see if we could get Shannon to come here if Thompson leaves.

Doubt he'd take anything less than a coordinator position this early after being fired as a head coach.

Probably. Still be'd a great get though (if anything happens, which I don't think it will anyways).

Losing Lance would be devastating... with that being said, I really think Dooley should have named him as our Recruiting Coordinator instead of his boy from La Tech

+1. IMO, RC is mainly just a title, especially when the HC is as involved in recruiting as Dooley is. Should've given CLT that title instead of CTJ (although even a RC title wouldn't keep CLT from leaving to take a DC position if one opened up, so it might not really matter anyway).

Maybe you should be a defensive coordinator if you know what plays Chaney runs. Oh wait, let me guess you're not talking about routes, blocking scheme, etc... you are talking pass or run. Don't be a moron, Chaney has been brilliant setting up his game plan this year. Against Ole Miss, they came out stacking the box daring us to throw it and Chaney torched them with the pass. Guess what, that opened up the running game in the 2nd half due to Ole Miss switching to a zone defense. That is called a chess match. Against Florida, he had a brilliant plan and baited their secondary with dinks and dumps and then burnt them downfield on two plays. Just because he had Simms to work with, Moore hurt, and Jones hurt the first part of the season doesn't justify "oh he was terrible." Look what he did vs. comparable talent and a fully healthy players.

But nice try... there's a little more to football then saying hey this is going to be a run or this is going to be a pass. Maybe you should read up on that.
Considering your history here, the fact that I am not in your favor is a good thing.

If sims transfers again that will make his 4rth team, Unless he goes back to 1 of former schools how often does that hapen ?

I have just thought that his playcalling has been awful for most of this year. Not sure how much that is dictated by personnel or lack of, but he hasnt mixed up the playcalling at all imo.

I think he has done a great job considering our limitations. What would you have him do? Should he mix it up with more runs when we have proven we don't really have a running game. He is passing to set up an occasional run and that is all we are capable of doing.

It would suck for Smart to leave and LT back to Bama to be the DC

I realize that we are passing the open up the run, but I just have the opinion ( and thats all it is) that we have gotten away from the run way to early. I dont get paid to make the calls, and maybe I am way off, but I hope this changes with some maturity on the offensive line for next year. Jmo

yeah but could see that happening... at least would not be a surprise to see it.. I've seen Bama several times this year and Nick seemed to be in Smart's ear many times... coordinators don't last long under Nick... but they do at least seem to maintain positiosn when they move on...

Randy Shannon was the "main" guy behind the 2 Live Crew (luther campbell) pay- for- plays crap that happened in the 80's with Miami. Not sure he needs to be in Knoxville! JMO!

Thompson and Dooley are close. Smith as well. They all have history together. I think if any coach leaves it will be supported by the staff. They also know how good these kids are going to be. Either way, Dooley has the Vols on the up and up! GBO!!!

I have no idea as to whether it's Cheney or Dooley - but Dooley's post-game comments seem to suggest that Tennessee's decision to all but abandon the run was on him.

I believe the comment was something like, "There's no sense in beating your head into the wall trying to run when it isn't working.....I told Cheney to throw it, which we are good at......you throw three and have a chance to get one of them and pick up the first down."

I remember this, as I agreed with him. I don't care if we run it 65 times a game, throw it 65, or its a perfect 1:1 ratio - do whatever works, and whatever it takes.

I loved it. It'll be nice to have a bit more running game (which will happen), but putting points on the board is what it's about. And the pass patterns aren't of the "run 4 yards and wait for the ball" variety. There are some crazy throws (crazy good and occasionally crazy bad) from Bray of course, but some of the calls that spring guys wide open (Cooper dashing down the left sideline, only to drop the perfectly thrown ball, for instance) are brilliant. I much prefer this to the standard predictable nonsense.
