Losing Lance would be devastating... with that being said, I really think Dooley should have named him as our Recruiting Coordinator instead of his boy from La Tech
Considering your history here, the fact that I am not in your favor is a good thing.Maybe you should be a defensive coordinator if you know what plays Chaney runs. Oh wait, let me guess you're not talking about routes, blocking scheme, etc... you are talking pass or run. Don't be a moron, Chaney has been brilliant setting up his game plan this year. Against Ole Miss, they came out stacking the box daring us to throw it and Chaney torched them with the pass. Guess what, that opened up the running game in the 2nd half due to Ole Miss switching to a zone defense. That is called a chess match. Against Florida, he had a brilliant plan and baited their secondary with dinks and dumps and then burnt them downfield on two plays. Just because he had Simms to work with, Moore hurt, and Jones hurt the first part of the season doesn't justify "oh he was terrible." Look what he did vs. comparable talent and a fully healthy players.
But nice try... there's a little more to football then saying hey this is going to be a run or this is going to be a pass. Maybe you should read up on that.
I have just thought that his playcalling has been awful for most of this year. Not sure how much that is dictated by personnel or lack of, but he hasnt mixed up the playcalling at all imo.
I think he has done a great job considering our limitations. What would you have him do? Should he mix it up with more runs when we have proven we don't really have a running game. He is passing to set up an occasional run and that is all we are capable of doing.
It would suck for Smart to leave and LT back to Bama to be the DC
What could have been... and still might be. :hi:
Kevin Steele Tennessee Bound: Clemson Coach To Be Named Vols Defensive Coordinator (POLL)
Caution: old article, of course.
I have no idea as to whether it's Cheney or Dooley - but Dooley's post-game comments seem to suggest that Tennessee's decision to all but abandon the run was on him.
I believe the comment was something like, "There's no sense in beating your head into the wall trying to run when it isn't working.....I told Cheney to throw it, which we are good at......you throw three and have a chance to get one of them and pick up the first down."
I remember this, as I agreed with him. I don't care if we run it 65 times a game, throw it 65, or its a perfect 1:1 ratio - do whatever works, and whatever it takes.
