I' going to be optimistic and predict we average 140 yards rushing a game in 2012. Its a stretch and perhaps a pipe dream after two seasons where we averaged about 90 yards a game. Its imperative we can rest our defense with some sustained drives that happen when you can pick up first downs running the ball. I have no sound logic other than the new offensive line coach and rb coach will change the results in the running game. First, as some have posted a change in scheme from sprint draw blocking to zone will happen and more consistent running lanes will open. Second, the combination of Lane, Borque and hopefully Neal will be able to pound the ball. I can see Borque a bigger tailback wearing out defenses much like LSU did last season with Hilliard and the other large backs they used.

I think the chances are good, we have proven we can pass the ball, so the 9 men in the box should be history

Jim Chaney still calling the plays, designing the plays, and setting the blocking scheme?

Probably not very good chance of a quality running game then.

I guess Coach Jay Graham was a waste of a hire...Just going to sit watch and cheer.

We have something we have not had since Dooley has been here and that is a real Running Back Coach.....which was needed....

We'll be better as long as Bray+the triplet WRs are healthy.. but the fact that we're counting on marlin lane as an every down back is kind of scary..

I doubt we ask him to carry the ball 25 to 30 times. Probably 15-18 rushes and touches in the passing game.

Our line was flat awful in run blocking last year. That's not a one man issue like who is the RB; but a 5 man issue. I don't have a lot of hope it will greatly improve until we change some of the OL bodies out there. Either they are in the wrong positions or we need to rotate in some other starters somewhere (like Tiny). The center issue was the biggest joke last season for the offense. We can't live another season with that going on.

6-7th in a 14 team SEC? With pass-happy Chaney going to be loving all his new aerial toys? Unlikely.

And Jay Graham helps the RB with more than rushing the ball. Most of his job is to assist them with playbook, blocking techniques, and motivation. He can't make them see holes better or hit them harder.

The main issue here is that a Chaney offense WILL NOT run the ball successfully against SEC-level speed defenses...he's never proven he can have a balanced offense against real defenses...why is that magically going to start now?

140 rushing ypg is reasonable. Along with 250 passing ypg = 390 to 420 ypg avg...

would be a 100 yard increase....but fixes to OL line, a RB's coach with healthy group, no major injuries and the Recruitting Pick ups on offense...

The potential is there for a tremendous increase in yard production....more balanced attack. 400 ypg avg is not out of reach by any means..

Key stat will be turnover margin, penalities. With the offense potential we have I see no team out of reach on schedule....
I think the passing ave

I thought we would be decent this year.

Hopefully we take a more focused approach to the running game as opposed to last year. Our passing game will be the strength, but we need to be better balanced.

It won't be much better without a commitment to the running game. They're obviously going to be able to pass and that should be the strength of the team. You got to be able to get the tough yard though, or you're going to fail against the better teams.

I think that Neal could be the surprise of the group. With his speed and some coaching from Graham hopefully he can start producing. I dont really care who does step up, just get some production so we can keep the defenses honest.

I understand what you are saying...He is pass happy and does not understand the run the ball mentality...which is and will be a concern...for the offense to be so good it did not have the right chemistry.

Chaney will have to adjust and hopefully that the changes that have occurred forces the balance to occur.

The run game with Chaney is so predictable it is sad. Then its abandoned and then calls predictable plays out of it then back to abandonment...

Our run game got into so many 2nd/3rd and longs.....

He spends no time loosening the defense up with a mix of plays...little dingers never hurt...we either pass it 10+ yards down field, run up the middle, no speed for the outside, or sprint draw...we design plays that get to the corner but takes hours to get there.

Potential is there. Experience and physical development on the OL will be better. OL coaching change is a wild card. RB's will be a question mark. The big difference should be schemes. I believe the staff recognized the mistake they made last year but you cannot really correct in in mid-season.

I agree.. if we can get 140 to 150 yards per game on the ground we will have a good to great season provided no major injuries...

Bray's checks have always concerned me...

In that case, tell Bray...in 2012, straight cash homey.

Are you basing your assessment of Chaney on 2 seasons of an offense who was extremely young and inexperienced playing in the best league in the country?
Not very smart, IMO.

If there is not dramatic improvement by the offense this year, then I'll be the first to jump on the "FIRE CHANEY" bandwagon. Until then, best not to count him out.
