CFP.....deep thoughts

In 12 semifinal games only 3 have been decided by a single score. 2 were within 2 scores. The rest have been blow outs including 2 shut outs.

No... the playoffs do not need to be expanded.

You can not expand playoffs and leave the highest ranked G5 school out. Won’t happen.

And once again, those bottom 5 teams are no where close to the top 3

I agree with this. It would be a disaster for the NCAA to do that. It would fracture Division I football.

I don’t want more playoff games, I do want better bowl games. I wish the change is to eliminate all the automatic bowl tie ins and use the rankings to pair the teams. Not necessarily 7 vs 8 but 5 vs 6-12 so that you could get a level of rivalry.

Not a bad idea... but would you want two teams from the same conference playing each other in a bowl? I do like the SEC vs Bog 10 and ACC matchups.

Makes no sense. They were the undefeated Big 10 champs and a play away from winning last night.

The big 10 brags about a nine conference game schedule; but when you come right down to it, there are a bunch of patsies in the big 10. Right now it's even worse in the ACC. Sure the SEC has teams the caliber of Vandy, but even the middle of the pack SEC teams can make life miserable for the top of the conference if they don't come prepared. It was obvious that OSU was a great team last night, but would OSU have been that good if they'd played a schedule like most SEC teams play ... the week in week out wear and tear on players is pretty brutal. Same thing with Clemson schedule wise - just not much overall conference strength - this year especially. Don't forget that where teams rank during and at the end of the year is pretty much dictated by the W/L record rather than the strength of the conference where most of their games are won and lost ... when all is said and done, the bowl results will probably show once again that overall conference strength should be a bigger factor in rankings than simple wins and losses. Face it, no matter what the record, AAC (not ACC for clarity) teams and the like probably don't deserve rankings in the top 20.

People really, really need to pump the brakes with all the HB speculation and fantasizing. Let the kid get some practices under his helmet. Let him play a few games. You're wondering if a kid is going to be "elite" before he has stepped foot on the field.

As to whether OK is that bad or LSU is that good, it's a mixture of both. It's a sterling example of why we don't need eight teams in the playoff. I actually think last night provided a better road map. Have a three-team playoff where one team gets a bye and two teams do a play in. With three, you eliminate the argument that out of two teams neck and neck one got left out. Whether it's eight or four, there's always going to be that argument anyway.

Can't do that bruh.

Got the Bailey for Heisman shipment of tee shirts in the air already.

I agree unless it’s the NCG 😁
But I don’t think the bowls would select 2 teams from the same league.
My current issue with the conference tie is are all the repeat games, or what seems to be. There are rarely SEC vs PAC 12 or Big 12

That was a well constructed argument and you definitely have a point, but understand that I’m responding to a post that started with “Tonight’s loss shows...” which to me is laughable. How in the world is a 4 point loss to the undefeated, defending national champs evidence of anything? If a play or two goes the other way, the fan narrative is “see...they’re as good as advertised”.

Tee Higgins, Amari Rodgers, Jacob Phillips, Jacoby Stevens, Maurice Hampton and Master Teague would have looked good in Tennessee Orange this year. Maybe Woodi Washington eventually.
You know that Trevor Lawrence was born in Johnson City and he and his parents were Tennessee fans.I still dont know how we werent a factor in his recruitment. Thanks Lyle.

I kinda did at first but now I’m confused if it would be Coach Fill Phulmer or Coach Fulmer Phil ?

Haha, when I first saw the title I saw it as "CPF" and opened it to see what deep thoughts the OP was having about him. It was early in the morning.

I’m having a lot of trouble understanding the point of your post. Should fans not be excited and hope he turns out to be a great qb? Watching the games yesterday proved (yet again) that it’s all about qb. You either have one...or you’re no good. We haven’t had one in a while. I’m not trying to be dramatic but Jg is one of the worst QBs we’ve seen continue to start. We’ve certainly had bad QBs but they were always replaced quickly. Jg has started for 3 years! And lucky us...we got him for another year apparently. He’s not just going to learn to stay calm under pressure and move around in the pocket to buy time. Yet that’s the no1 skill that all great QBs have.
So back to the point...what on earth is wrong with hoping that Harrison bailey becomes that guy?

There's nothing wrong with him becoming the guy. Hope it happens obviously. People are wondering if he's going to be "elite" before he has ever stepped on the field. It's just ridiculous.

LSU is going to Boat race Clemson. OSU gave Clemson the game.
That offense is unstoppable.
If Auburn and Alabama couldn't stop it , how is Clemson going to.
Three tiers in college football this year.
Tier 1- LSU
Tier 2- OSU and Clemson
Tier 3 everybody else.
Go Big Orange!!! Finish strong.

- elite QBs win championships. Both LSU and Clemson’s QBs were lights out. Will HB be this kind of elite?

- would TN be the Clemson team we have seen over the past 5 years had we avoided the dysfunctional decade? How many names did you hear on Clemson’s roster tonight that would likely have been Vols had we picked the right coach the first time?

- was OK that bad or is LSU that good? Will we be able to score on that defense next year? Give them a fight next year?

- I would love to see LSU win it all but I still have a bad taste in my mouth about coach O telling our recruits to not attend class as he snuck off with Kiffin.

Just a few thoughts after watching the two games today? What say you?

As someone mentioned in another thread: OK would have lost to FL, Aub, AL, and GA. Wouldn't rule out TN, aTm and KY beating them as well.

With that said, LSU and Clemson are that good.

OK should bring back a lot of starters too next season, unless they have a lot of Juniors declare early. By my count on ESPN (don't know who is or isn't on a scholly):

7 Seniors on Offense: 2 QBs, 3 WRs, 2 OL, 0 RBs
9 Seniors on Defense: 4 DL, 2 LBs, 2 CBs, 1 S
All 5 Special teams players are listed as Sophomores

I think we will match up pretty good against them.

My favorite part of the game was when Herbie happily said oh yeah that’s definitely a catch and a fumble, but the rules expert said I disagree, he never tucked it or made a football move. His OSU bias was on full display there and he had to backtrack and reign it in.

Was Herbstreet literally crying after the game? When ESPN went through it's post game on field celebration + handshakes + hugs + confetti + players walking out thru tunnel etc ... they eventually came back up to the booth for comment from Kirk "SchiatNo" Herbstreet and I swear his eyes were so red that he had either hit some hard drugs or was trying to dry up the tears from a boohoo session. I'm not joking. Is there a replay of all that?

Sorry, I didn't intend to come across as criticizing your post, and I did probably hastily agree with the original post. OSU obviously came to play last night; they were very good, extremely physical and aggressive, and, as you said, a play or two away from the win. I was surprised by their physicality - particularly at the start, and I was thinking Clemson was very likely headed for a loss.

What I agreed with in the first post was that OSU didn't belong at #1 because of strength of schedule, and not having to go against teams week in and week out that cause the loss of key players. I'm probably a lot older than most guys here, so I admit to a heavy anti big 10 bias. I watched the bias in rankings - in the newspapers back in those days - the big 10, a couple of CA teams, and ND could do no wrong ... even when the old SWC was really strong. Now I'm seeing not much parity in most conferences ... including the SEC, but the SEC for one still seems to be more even across the board, and the dominant schools in every conference seem to be strong because recruiting keeps them there. You might say winning begets winning because of the recruiting aspect ... or the rich keep getting richer.

I just think rankings should be all about who a team takes to the cleaners rather than how many teams they've taken to the cleaners. Just like so many people say Tennessee isn't what it used to be, so are several big 10 teams, and the ACC as a whole is very close to being in the league of the never have been right now.

I agree, I don't like Ohio State. But they got some tough calls.

They were game changers no doubt. But, the only one I thot was bad was the "incomplete". I'll swear he had that ball locked in his grasp and took 3 steps. I just can't fathom how rules could make that INDISPUTABLE and reversible. Gigantic play with points swing.

Good News: It was OSU. If it wasn't for the sports media pumping them shamelessly my entire life, I probably wouldn't hate them. On the LSU-OU ESPN radio broadcast one of thier guys interviewed Burrow after the game and asked his 2nd Q ... "Well, how do you feel @ playing OSU in the championship". Burrow kinda taken back said "uhhh, oh yeah I'm looking fwd to watching that game". Those people disgust me.

Good thoughts, all I can say is Clemson and LSU have very very fast players. We have a long way to go to get to that level. GBO
