College football predictions: Nation's most overrated, playoff picks, 2018 Heisman favorites
Most overrated team
West Virginia: I'm in on Will Grier, but there are too many other questions -- including what WVU's offense looks like if he gets banged up -- to have on board with the pollsters in saying the Mountaineers are a top-20 team. To me, there are two or three teams in the Big 12 that I'd take over West Virginia, and while there's a great chance to put together a solid record in September and October, I think the November schedule will leave them right in the middle of the Big 12 standings and not in the top 25 of the polls. -- Chip Patterson (also Tom Fornelli, Barton Simmons)
They may be overrated when you consider the entire season as a whole. But we get them week 1 with no injuries, with probably more unanswered questions than any team in football. New HC, new systems, no real QB leader, an OL that might be good but might be terrible. A seconday [that might be] full of holes going up against a QB that is widely considered top tier. Their HC needs wins badly to save his job. Our HC is brand new and even if UT goes 0-8 again in the SEC, he knows he aint going nowhere.
they may be overrated by the end of the season, but they have a better than good chance of counting UT as one of their Ws.
Kirk is an idiot when it comes to WVU. He don't like us. Y'all whine about Pat Fordes.......we get the same treatment too. That's what's fun about our upcoming game. We're all middle-of-the-pack conference teams, trying to get up to the top, culturally all the same, just on opposite side of the hill, and both love our effing college football. It's all good. Let's have a beer at the deer huntin camp.
Your logic is poor, MWA. "We have a lot of unknowns, therefore they're better than us."
That'd be like saying, "they rolled a 4, we haven't rolled yet, therefore they've got a higher roll than us."
That's not how it goes.
It goes like this: "We have a ton of unknowns, therefore there's no way of telling who's going to win."
That's how it goes.
You left out the part where after the injury they hook up the starting QB to a secret IV and give him a snoot full of the magic FOOSEBALL dust and trot him back out, like popeye high on on Spinach ...it's happened beforeBEWARE...You might see a duck pull a truck.
1st play of the game with WV at the 20 with the ball.
There's the snap and the QB drops back to pass.
King Tut is fighting 2 O linemen and pushing both of them backwards, what a beast he is.
King Tut breaks through both of them and SPLAT..Down goes the WV QB flat on his back with King Tut right on top of him.
WV trainers and doctors are running out on te field to check on their QB.
We'll take a commercial break during this injury and be right back.
We're back folks and the QB for WV is being loaded into a ambulance but WAIT, look at this, I've never seen this before after just 1 play in a game.
Thousands of WV fans are admitting defeat and are leaving the stadium after just 1 play in the game.
This is just crazy my friends.
The backup QB for WV does NOT seem to want to come on the field either.
The WV coach is going nuts and now calls a timeout to try to figure something out.
We're back from another commercial and nobody is going to believe this, the entire WV football team has left the field.
Info we're getting from the WV locker room is that the WV AD met with the head coach and the coach quit right on the spot and left the stadium.
None of the assistant coaches want the HC job and the word is that they can't find enough players that want to return and face the Tennessee team anymore.
I've never seen anything like this in my life.
Tennessee gets the WIN after just 1 play in the game.
Score.....King Tut and the Tennessee Big Orange Vols....1.
WV quitters 0.
The entire field is now Tennessee Orange as the entire Team and thousands of their fans celebrate and dance.
VFL...GBO!!!
I don't think they'll be exposed as overrated until later in the year. It is entirely possible they enter November 8-0 and ranked very highly. Within the first 8 their toughest game is probably @ NC State or against Kansas St at home. Then they could very easily lose their last 4 (@ Texas, TCU, @ Oklahoma St, Oklahoma). Schedule is very back-loaded.they can still be the most overrated team in the country, and still win Saturday. just sayin'....
Tennessee and Iowa State can lower the boom on West Virginia also. I can see both Tennessee and Iowa State being 8-4.I don't think they'll be exposed as overrated until later in the year. Having so many unknowns just days before a big non-conference game is almost certainly a very bad thing. ...
Exactly. If we win- "they are a solid top 20 team, its on to Atlanta for us!"I'm not into declaring an opponent as overrated. After we whoop their azz, I will be declaring what a great team they are.
The idea that WVU may be overrated may make you feel good BEFORE the game, but after the game, if you win, you’ll be trying to convince the rest of the country how good WVU is, and because you beat them, UT is really good too. Can’t have it both ways.
To me, WVU is the perfect opponent for UT. WV has just enough of a good reputation that if you lose, it’ll be because they’re a respectable, solid team with a great QB. If you win, it’ll still be seen as an impressive upset and will jumpstart the Pruitt era with a signature win right out the gates.
I’m not predicting the upset but wouldn’t be surprised to see UT win.

You're still confusing "unknown" with "not good," MWA.
And sure, sometimes the unknown takes a bite of you. But sometimes, it thrills you. And you just never know which it's gonna be until it arrives.
If it makes you feel any better, a lot of the things that are unknown to you and me, they're already known by our head coach and his assistants. They don't seem to be crying or gnashing their teeth. So maybe we're gonna be okay. Let's see how it plays out rather than hitting the Eeyore button in advance.![]()
