CBS: Tennessee Must Make Changes

I'm going to throw out some whys, feel free to pick apart any of my analysis, because I'm certainly not a coach:

Why have we completely abandoned the long ball that worked so well early in the season? Even if we don't connect on them wouldn't that loosen up the D a little? We are suddenly in love with the pass to the flat.

I know we may not be comfortable with our backup QBs, but why doesn't JA (same question with Nico, and with Joe Milton) keep the ball on these zone read plays 4-5;times a game? We're back to a "pretended zone read-every running play is a slow developing dive Butch Jones offensive showcase"

Why do we slow the offense down and huddle up and "be more focused on getting the right play in" to call a run up the middle. I feel like this offense is too simplistic to go slow and the main edge we had with Hooker was the warp speed aspect.

Why do we go long stretches and forget that we can call running plays?

Why can we run for 200 yards and not be comfortable running the ball on 3rd and two when we're on the other side of the 50 yard line. To me, that's 4 down territory, ram the ball down their throats twice and get the first down.

Like Heupel is fat and ugly.
I think the team and players take on their coaches identity. CJH gives off a sloppy, lack of discipline attitude. Never holds a player accountable or gets upset about anything. Great coaches would be losing their minds with some of the crap we are pulling on the field. He is too soft himself. Doesn't matter how well he recruits if he can't develope them and coach them up.

Rome isn’t burning but we have seen the floor and ceiling of this program under CJH. If we can live in that 2-3 loss sphere then we have our guy. If not, we take a gamble and risk starting from the ground up again. I don’t see much difference in him and Kiffin or any of the other offensive gurus. I don’t see what we would gain by losing him. We score enough to mask our other deficiencies most of the time, but when we don’t we lose. The teams that can ride that storm and score with us will be a problem, always.

To do long ball, you need your line to block. Our line didn't hold up well against Alabama Saturday.

I don’t want to repeat a post that I made in another thread but in regards to Kiffin, he may not achieve better results than Heupel, but it sure looks like he’s trying a lot harder.

Heupel could use some change on the defensive side, but I swear if you f’ers run him off and we go back to wander in the wilderness I will be in here to berate you, your wives, and children ever day until the day I die. Some of y’all just aren’t realistic. I would like to see improvement, but I also know what life was like before Heupel arrived

Let me see if I get this right. We lost to UGa at home in overtime. Considered a pretty good team. Possibly could have came into the Alabama game undefeated. Go to Bama and get beat, but now we're hot garbage.

I think the issue is compounding with how Tennessee looked against "bad" Arkansas and Miss State teams. They just haven't looked great (especially defensively) in SEC play.

This is why it would be HUGE if Tennessee could not only win at Kentucky but win by 3-4 TDs. Have a solid victory. A strong defensive performance would help. After more thought on Alabama game, defense did look better in that game versus previous 2, offense had a lot of turnovers/mistakes.

Kentucky is not a gimmie. I think we'll win, probably handily if we play well, but they just took Texas to OT. You can't underestimate anybody in this league, especially on the road.
Nope you really can't.. Any road game for the Vols can be iffy unless they're playing a directional school..

One thing that I heard during the game was where we ranked in dropped passes. I’ve seen every game and I think that interception in this game was the first one that I felt like was Joey’s fault. All the others always seemed to bounce off someone’s hands or their facemasks. I’m not sure you can blame coaches for scheming up a play to get someone open and then they drop it. Our drives seem to always get killed with a dropped pass or a penalty and none of those seems seem to happen much when our defense is out there (unless it’s a penalty on us!)

Joey's got way too many INT's this year. It erases all the great throws he makes, and Brazzle has been a non-factor the past 2 games.

Its true on Joey, but unfortunately that's who he is. I'm not a hater, I appreciate him and I'm glad we have him... but he's going to make some bad throws.

Wtf does that mean, trying harder? Can you qualify that?
Yes. He has an ex NFL head coach on staff as a position coach. He locked up Golding who has a better track record than Banks. He does have his brother on staff which is a red flag but it just goes back to Heupel leaning towards only coaching with his buddies.

I feel like people wrote this article about DeBoer a few weeks ago, and look where they are now

Just IMO....At times last night I thought I was watching a Butch or Pruitt coached team.
It felt that way. So many head scratching moments. This team is undisciplined as it gets. Clock management is always questionable. Horrible fundamentals. There’s plenty of talent on the roster
