CBS poll top 130 is Tenn to low

The Vols have no players on the preseason all SEC 1st or 2nd team, no proven playmakers, no track record of recent success, they are learning a new defense and offense, playing a lot of unproven players, a new QB, and have many other questions. How can any of us complain about where they are ranked in a subjective pre season poll.

Let's be honest, no one is scared of the power T nor Neyland Stadium, and haven't been in the past 10 years. When you watch any pre season show (NCAA or SEC), the Vols are not even an afterthought.

Sure hope this staff can change this culture and national image. Up to them to earn a better ranking.

Top 25 team in talent? Not sure the Vols have more than 1 or 2 players who would start for half of the teams in the SEC.

Since Fulmer, new coach's first year vs the previous year of the outoing regime, in win differential...

Kiffin +2 wins
Dooley -1 wins
Butch +0 wins
Pruitt +1 wins

Last year we were 3-7 in a weird SEC only schedule which would've played out to like a 5-7 or 6-6 type year.

I'd say, just going by past data, we're looking at 5 to 7 wins this year.

I’m loving this “we are garbage” crap coming from the media. I have a feeling it’s gonna age well before the season is over

The problem with these kinds of polls is that the inclusion police are in the middle of it. Voters get too enamored with smaller programs that beat the brakes off other smaller programs. I have seen way too many 7-5 SEC teams destroy 10-2 G5 teams in bowl games to buy into it as a rule.

For the sake of discussion, lets assume that UT is 13 out of 16 in the SEC. That's 12 teams better. Now let's say that the top six teams in the other P5 conferences are all better than UT. That's 24 more teams. So, what this poll says is that there are 30+ G5 schools that would beat Tennessee. Even as down as they have been, that doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

We're a top 25 team in talent.
Haven't shown it as of yet.

5 of our former starter went to BETTER programs and are starting there. Even though we were 3-7 with them.

After week 3 everyone will be taking about the Tennessee Vols.
Could be a 1989 type of year

68 is a safe bet for pollsters. Having no clue as to what product UT will put on the field, a pollster is inclined to put them in the middle of the pack. It is easy to justify the ranking in their mind. Honestly though, nobody cares after the top 25.

College Football Rankings 2021 - CBS Sports Ranking

Bowling Green 128 out of 130. Tennessee 68th I do believe. Is Tenn to low in this poll.

I don't care what the polls say at any point in any season. Last time they meant anything was before they moved away from the BCS. That is done now that the crystal ball is replaced with that "work of art"trophy and the committee sets who goes to the playoff. Now worrying about polls seems akin to the opening scene of Pee Wee from "Porky's". I get it is a hard habit to break for most college football fans, but seems like a waste of time.
