CBS poll top 130 is Tenn to low

I don't make a lot of predictions because they burn you about as often as not... but I believe UK is badly overrated. They have been no better than middling the past couple of years from the perspective of the whole SEC... and then just lost 10+ of their best players. They could be "awesome"... but they face a "rebuild" bigger than UT's.

Pitt won't finish there. Their schedule other than a very weak OOC schedule is improved. Likely losses without respect to UT- UNC, Miami, Clemson, Va Tech, and Virginia. Ga Tech could be a trap. They're probably going to be a 5 or 6 loss team again. In spite of the weakness of the ACC and their typical OOC schedule, they haven't lost less than 5 games since changing conferences.
I appreciate the take on Pitt. I don't get it but they're consistently showing up above us in pre season polls. I don't believe it either but I'm not ready to call them a creampuff, easy win, etc.

As for KY, if the situation were reversed..... new, 1st time SEC head coach, new and very different offensive system, tons of loss in the portal, thinner than you would like OL (Heupel's words, not mine,) suspect defense, arguably QB1 and QB2 who've never played a down in the SEC...... we'd be happy to see that.

I'm not saying KY is a powerhouse, they're not, but they're more stable and a little more seasoned than TN this year. Talent? We've got them. We had them last year but KY has had more time to gel as a team, to understand their weak points and adjust.

We're flying blind in many ways. It's not a slam dunk TN win in Lexington this year.

UK has a good HC... who just lost most of his talent and has lost less than 5 games only once in his 7 years at UK.

Their D will be "suspect" after losing its best players. This will be a very different offensive system and focus for them. Their likely starter at QB... has never played a down in the SEC. They appear to be going from a run focused O to more of a pass oriented O. Their run game could suffer a lot due to the loss of the QB run as a major threat. Rodriguez returns but Rose and Wilson rounded out their top 3 rushers and are gone.

My major point isn't necessarily that I know what UT will be. Rather that I believe UK is overrated.

Agreed. We're both ??? right now and I understand the "we always beat KY" sentiment because historically it's true. This just isn't the "we're just a basketball school" KY I remember from the 80s and it sure isn't the TN I remember from the 90s.

It sucks but we have to respect KY now until we kick them back down into their place.

My contention is based almost exclusively on my belief that UK is going to have a down year. They lost too much. They're making big changes on O. And we are considering them "improved" because they've gotten a few wins vs UT during what may be the deepest slump in the history of UT while still losing 5+ games almost every year. If UK had been stringing together 10 win seasons over this time and lost the core of their talent then I would get it. Maybe they come back with a decent team. But that's not where they're at.

Perhaps those predicting an easy win with Pitt and KY should note they are ranked 41 and 35, respectively.

Neither will be easy wins.

So what's cbs logic for rating teams? Pitt played ok against inferior competition last season and lost the bulk of their great defense.

I don't think Pitt will be an easy win but I do think we beat them by 7.

Nobody on earth right now can predict who is the 68th best team versus 69th or 70th or 67th, etc. Certainly not the so-called "media" who actually aren't very knowledgeable about real football but just indulge in group think within their echo chamber. List-making appeals to the human psyche, so nonsense like this gets clicks, but this is basically just entertainment, not anything actually related to reality as it will be played out this season. You can safely ignore stupid pieces of pseudo-journalistic entertainment like this, it means nothing.
…. but it may provide incentive if so inclined…

It's at the Swamp. They're not going to want to lose two SEC games in a row at home.

I'd love to be a GBO homer but..... c'mon, they're simply not going to lose two SEC games in a row at the Swamp. Mullen, well.... parts of him, might be found face down in an Everglades canal if that happens.
A losing streak of two games in the swamp would be nice against Mullen. It would be sweet coach Hype getting a win in his first season against Florida, especially at the swamp.

We're a top 25 team in talent.
Haven't shown it as of yet.

5 of our former starter went to BETTER programs and are starting there. Even though we were 3-7 with them.

After week 3 everyone will be taking about the Tennessee Vols.
What about after week 4 when we play the Gators.

They’re a good squad . Sark better have Texas tightened up Week 1. Wouldn’t surprise me in the least bit to see Louisiana win that game.
I’ve seen where they’re a good squad. I’ll say this, an embarrassing time may be coming for Texas.

The real question is..if UT is 3-0 heading into Florida game, How close are they to the top 25? And if they somehow pull the upset, do they jump into the top 20?

Yeah, I take those rankings with a grain of salt. UT hasn’t been good, but teams like Toledo, San Jose St, UAB, etc ranked ahead is pretty ridiculous.

Not with the latest chapter in the soap opera. I's a preseason poll, which means nothing. Unless of course, you are Pee Wee from Porky's.

Interesting you call Stoops a good HC. In his first 3 seasons he won a total of 12 games. Since 2018, he has steadily went down from 10 to 8 to 5 wins. How is that the definition of a good HC?

Because it is extremely difficult to have even that level of success at UK. He's brought in better players. He's sent more guys to the NFL. He's almost a .500 coach (.495). That's the best win % of any UK coach since Bear Bryant left them in 1953.
