Carolina Panthers

at this point, i think i might be better served applying for personnel director. i know i could go out and find and sign the same guys they've gotten this off season.

2010 is starting off so well for this team. I was at the January 3rd game when they beat the eventual Super Bowl winners, and now JAKE DELHOMME HAS BEEN RELEASED!!! :dance2:
I was a Jake supporter for a long time, but after the Arizona playoff loss was followed by a 5 turnover game at Philly, I was ready to see him go. Word is that Hurney will soon name Moore the official starter for 2010. Peppers is finally gone too! I know he brings a lot to the table (on contract years), but this will free up a lot of dough.
It's going to be a great season!

What an awesome day! Panther fans should all go out for celebratory drinks tonight and this weekend! :dance2::dance2::dance2::dance2::dance2::dance2::clapping::clapping::clapping::clapping::fireworks::fireworks::fireworks::fireworks::fireworks::girl1::girl1::groupwave::groupwave:

I wouldn't be surprised if he gets resigned as a back up.

But, make no mistake folks, the Cats are in trouble. No 1st round pick, I believe no 2nd round pick?, plus a noodle armed QB, and their best defensive player is gone, not to mention a lacking WR corps. I fear for next season.

A noodle armed QB? If you're talking about AJ Feely, he signed elsewhere this year!
Matt Moore has a winning record as a starter. It's something like 7-2.
The Panthers don't have a first round pick, but they do have Everette Brown, who would have definitely been a top ten pick in this year's draft had he stayed at FSU for his senior season. The DO have a second rounder, and they'll use that pick to either add to the "lacking WR corps" (though they seemed fine for Moore last year), or they'll use it to add another solid DT. No reason to fear for next season.
DeAngelo and JStew are the best running duo ever, and now they have a promising young QB to help keep defenses guessing.
Beason and Davis will be back and healthy for next season, and I really believe in Ron Meeks.
I'm not saying we'll win the Super Bowl, but I am at least hopeful that the FO will make a splash in FA now, and 2010 could be at least better than 2009.

Okay, so Brad Hoover has now been released and I'm starting to second-guess my optimism. The FO really might be doing whatever they can to save money before the lockout and just write 2010 off as a rebuilding year.
Quick turn-around on my part, huh?
I'm not ready to say that the Panthers will suck (because I don't think they will), I just don't understand releasing Hoov and Kemo walk. Fiametta is not ready for the starting gig at FB.

i'll be honest; i've been wondering if they were doing that too honestly

Alright, so what do you think the Panthers will do with their first pick? I believe they'll go WR or DT. I'm hoping for Tyson Alualu or Mardy Gilyard with that 2nd round pick.
BPA among those two positions will be fine with me.
I wonder what it would take to trade for osi umenyiora.

Having a thursday night game is pretty much, status-wise, somewhere in between having a Sunday night game and a Monday night game

Plus with the way the league works, if Carolina does turn out to be really good this year, they'll move one of those 6 starred games to Sunday night

I just want to understand why they have Carolina playing @ the Giants for the third year in a row.

They'll go best available with the 2nd rounder, but we need a DT in a bad way.

And yes, the receiving corps is severely lacking. Just because Moore played well does not mean the receivers were acceptable, and we also beat a Mark Brunell (aged 42)- led Saints team on the last day of the season.

At least the schedule is favorable.

There you have it, 9-7 for the year. Better than I expected

I just want to understand why they have Carolina playing @ the Giants for the third year in a row.

Didn't the cowboys played at Carolina I think three years in a row as well? This is quoted from another blog...

"The answer to the Giants question (which is a good one, since the Panthers have played in the Meadowlands four times in the last 12 months (2 regular-season games against the Giants, 1 against the Jets, 1 preseason against the Giants):
The schedule is not set up for certain teams to play certain teams, if that makes sense. The schedule is made up of not only games against division opponents, but, on a rotating basis, eight games against teams from two (one NFC, one AFC) other divisions and the two other teams team in the NFC that finished in the same place in the standings as the Panthers.
So next year's Panthers-Giants game is actually scheduled as NFC South third-place team vs. NFC East third-place team. And this season that game happens to be at the NFC East's stadium, because of the rotation.
The Panthers played the Giants this past season because the NFC South was paired with the NFC East and the rotation again called for the game to be played at the Meadowlands. You can attribute all these games being at Giants Stadium (at least there'll be a new stadium next season) to an odd circumstance of the rotation falling that way."

I could not be more upset! First of all, I don't like Jimmy Clausen. I think he's incredibly overrated and always has been. Secondly, WE HAVE REAL NEEDS!!!! I am in disbelief that Golden Tate was available and we didn't take him. Steve Smith has to be furious right now after asking for another good receiver.

Holy hell, I guess I was wrong because I am now more upset than I already was. Brandon LaFell? The freaking draft guides on this guy compared him to DWAYNE JARRET. Still on the board was Mardy Gilyard, Taylor Price, hell, even Jordan Shipley. I'd have rather taken either of those guys over Brandon LaFell.
DJ 2.0. You've got to be kidding me.

Don't know anything about LaFell except he's got a lot more speed than Jarrett.

Not really sure about trading to get Armanti Edwards, a converted QB that'll need time to adjust. But, the Panthers love their home-area guys.

An odd draft for the Panthers. All skill positions. Unlike others on here, I'm not sold on Matt Moore, and I think the Clausen pick was a smart one, taking a shot on a guy with a lot of tools and someone that can come in and challenge to play right away. I don't see Moore as a guy who can start for 5+ years, but if Clausen can mature a little bit and overcome some adversity he can make Hurney look good.

Like I said, I know nothing about LaFell. And Edwards is a guy with leadership abilities that can function well with DeAngelo in the Wildcat and maybe become a good slot guy.

Historically the Panthers are good drafters (in the current regime). So I won't get too worked up about the "potential picks" and hopefully we'll find some gems in the bottom half of the draft tomorrow.

I am not happy about the Clausen pick. I thought I was done having to deal with that family on my teams after Jimmy went to Notre Lame. :banghead2:

After sleeping on it, the sky isn't falling. IF Clausen turns out to be as good as Kiper thinks, then we've got the next Peyton Manning on our team. If not, then it was just another blown pick. I think Edwards is a beast, and will learn to be a contributor. It just might take a year or two.
The LaFell pick is the one I'm still uneasy about, but maybe it won't be so bad.
Let's just hope they land a contributor in round four.

Eric Norwood late in the fourth round??? Steal of the draft! Also, I kind of like the Tony Pike pick too. Can you say, "goodbye Hunter Cantwell"?

I thought Clausen was well worth the risk, and was really hoping they were gonna take him when he fell to us.

I agree about Norwood,he should provide immediate
help and has the potential to be a star.

Overall, I feel pretty good about this new group of Panthers

Apparently Foxy wanted to trade up to get Clausen earlier in the 2nd but didn't have enough to deal.

My seven-week-old enjoyed the entire draft as well.
