Carolina Panthers

I need someone to tell me how this Sunday will be different from two years ago when SF came to Charlotte to beat us.
I'm going to be extremely anxious this week.

I'm going to be extremely anxious this week.

I will start by saying that 49er's team was better than this Seahawks team. And this year's Panthers is a better team than the Panthers of two years ago. Aside from that.... I'm anxious as well. I'm really thinking that this is going to be an instant classic slugfest. Behind closed doors, I'm sure they've planned since last Sunday to be facing the Seahawks. These are two of the most physical teams in the league. I think Lynch is still a question mark for Seattle, but I do figure he'll be active and in uniform Sunday. Carolina (Ginn and Stewart) should be as close to 100% as one can be at this point in the season. Home game, early kickoff and the BoA will be rocking.

And the Panthers will not be denied.

Here are a few matchups that will go a long way in deciding this game, IMO:

Finnegan vs. Lockett

Olsen vs. Chancellor

Ginn (good hands) vs. Ginn (stone hands)

Panthers need good games from their DE's. Not really in sacks or TFL's, but in containment. Don't let Wilson get outside on scrambles.

Will McClain not be lined up with Lockett?

I'm pretty sure that Tyler Lockett usually lines up in the slot, and I believe the Panthers plan on putting McClain opposite of Norman with Finnegan covering the slot.

I could be totally wrong, but I believe that Baldwin, Kearse, and their other WR's usually play the outsides with Lockett in the slot.

Yeah Finnegan needs to cover the slot, he's done an admirable job with that this season.

I'm very confident with Seattle coming in. Panthers are fresh and rested, Seahawks came off of a brutally cold and physical game that they should have lost.

If we were missing Ginn and Stewart this game, I'd be nervous. But with those two back, and I believe Olsen has another very big impact in this matchup (not numbers-wise, but key first downs, touchdowns, etc.), I have full confidence. The game that makes me nervous is the winner of the Cardinals/Pack matchup. Pack are hot right now and the Cardinals are tough and physical. If we get through these two NFC games, I think we walk over whoever comes out of the AFC in fiddy.

This also means nothing, but I think the Panthers wanted the Seahawks this weekend. I really liked Josh Norman's comments today about people that want things easy never want anything worth having. If you want to be great, you should want to earn it.

Just posted a new podcast. We talk playoffs and I sort of go on a bit of a Russell Wilson rant. I wanted to explain just why it's okay to dislike the guy despite all of the bandwagon love he gets. As you'll hear at the very beginning, I make a plea to any listener to boycott Starbucks and grunge music. At least for the rest of this week.

Panthers/Seahawks talk starts about 8 minutes in.

My surprise Wild Card prediction: Seahawks go to the frozen city of Minneapolis and lose. I think the weather, and the Vikes playing good football are going to be their downfall.
this should have happened.......but the golden horse shoe remains up Seattles back side.

i think that's the thing right? can we come out and dictate to the Seattle w/out over doing it? keep the emotion in check, but still have enough to matter? are we going to revert back to the team that comes up small and makes the mistakes in the biggest moments or are we going to be the team we've been all year long and come up big in those moments?

to me, this game comes down to a couple of things...

1. how does Bobby Wagner fit in to this game where he was absent the last?
2. complimentary football...can we generate pressure up front to help our secondary?
3. when opportunities present offensively, and they will, can we capitalise and make the play?

this is correct. i learned yesterday listening to Greg Kosell on the radio here in Charlotte, that he lines up in the slott about 80% of the time....that puts it on Finigan.

w/two weeks to prepare, i wonder what, if anything, we do different to catch Seattle off guard? or do we "do what we do"?

anxious...yes.

As I've mentioned earlier, behind closed doors, I'm certain that Carolina has been prepping for the Seahawks since Minnesota beat Green Bay in the SNF Finale. This is the matchup they want, another measuring stick. They're going to be ready and I'm expecting an outstanding game. I truly believe the Panthers are the better team and will win. If Russell Wilson goes off and has a monster game, then all bets are off. Otherwise....

Panthers 27
Seahawks 17

We've come too damn far this season to see this thing all come to an unceremonious end Sunday afternoon. Although Carolina has had quite a bit of success for a 90s franchise, I never thought I'd see a season where we were just one or two plays away from 16-0. It's enough to make you believe in magic and in sports miracles. I almost have the sense that this can't possibly end with anything but a Super Bowl title.

But we all know that there really are no "Sports Gods" watching over this thing, so we're going to have to do it on our own. If this comes to an end Sunday, I think I will be more disappointed than I've ever been as a Panthers fan. Even more disappointed than I was after the loss to the Patriots in '03.

I think we get it done against Seattle though.

it's the finality of the playoffs.

you lose you're done. and i keep hearing about playoff experience...this team has been in the playoffs 3 straight years. we've learned some pretty hard lessons in each of those seasons.

i think this team is ripe. they understand where they are, what it takes to get to the next step, and what's waiting for them if they don't.

here's what i don't expect to see....a team that's flat, looks unprepared and beats themselves.

i'm expecting a very good game, and i'm expecting this team to come out and execute.

if they do that, don't have the game changing mistakes, and prevent Seattle from lucking in to anything, then they sure can win this game...again.

Keep Pounding. GO Panthers!!

I feel you jakez.
Why do you sport a Steelers logo, btw?

My anxiety's current obsession is over Bobby Wagner. He didn't play in our first game this year, so I'm worried that he might be more disruptive than we'd like on Sunday.

grew up in the 70's in Memphis...no NFL team close, so I decided i hated the Cowboys and Raiders. who beat those guys a lot? the Steelers.

they were my first NFL team. and my wife is from Pittsburgh, and is diehard....which makes me, ipso facto, a steeler fan...mainly because i'm not an idiot....:)

but been in CHarlotte for 17 years....Panthers are the home team, and get the lion's share of space my heart has to share for the NFL.

it's hard on my kids....:eek:lol: i sent them to school today in their #1 jerseys....all i got was a glare from the mrs....

Wagner is a mystery, and could be a problem for us in the passing game.

my two biggest concerns are:
1. being able to cover defensively...i just hate we've had Tillman and Bene both go down at the end of the year....i think this is a big deal.
2. Russell Wilson and his golden horseshoe. that guy turns chicken you know what in to chicken salad. that simply can't happen this weekend. he can't magically find a person to "throw it at" and not get the intentional grounding call....can't fumble a snap and have "the play of the game".

i don't want anyone hurt. but i would love to see Wilson get crushed by Davis like he did Romo.

Jeremy Lane didn't play either.

Jared Allen didn't play. Charles Johnson didn't play. Devin Funchess wasn't a factor. Jimmy Graham played. Ricardo Lockette played. Marshawn Lynch was healthy and played.

Both teams have added guys and lost guys since the last matchup.

Jimmy Graham was a terrible addition. I'll take Luke Willson (Who should play this weekend) all day over Graham with the Seahawks system. That was my next question, I don't know how healthy the Panthers were. Thanks for answering ahead of time.

Also, Lynch should play but I'm not all that excited about it. He didn't do too well this year when he did and hasn't played in two months. Rawls will be missed more. But I hope Lynch goes crazy though!

I forgot about Rawls. I knew I was missing someone. I'm not sure how much Lynch will play. They're playing very coy about his status.

Oh I know. I've seen a bunch of social media talking about him boarding the plane and he'll play, he's practiced fully the last couple weeks. Blah blah.

But I'm not expecting 2010-2014 Lynch in a Seahawks uniform though. Fingers crossed, but it'll be mostly Michael though I'm sure.
